Can anyone tell me if a 265 tyre can be fitted on a 8.5" rim?

Some online say you can and some say you can't so I'm at a loss at the mo.

They are 265/35/19 conti sport contact 3's and in very good condition and would like to put them on another set of wheels.

Mine are currently 9x19 et52 and I'm looking at some 8.5x19 et43.

holy ffffuuuuu, just seen what national tyres want for them Laugh my ass off

That size looks to be stock porker fit in a 94 weight rating or BMW in a 98.

I couldn't find any specific info listings for conti, but a Yoko listing states that the ideal rim width for a 265 35 is 9.5 but they are usable on 9-10.5"

8.5" is the recommended rim width for 235 and 245's.

ideally you need to speak to a continental dealer, they should be able to tell you what will fit and will not, you do have to be a little more careful with lower profiles, though I guess you'd get away with it given the actual width of the damned things, the actual sidewall isn't that low even with a 35 LOL

Think i paid about £260 each fully fitted Doh

Thankfully i have seen the contis down at £190 and Hankooks at £150 plus fitting these days.

Hmm not sure what to do; i know from first hand experience that motorbike tyres can have pretty big differences in profile widths as my so called 180 rear is as wide and some manufacturers 190.

Take a look here ( click on Specs tab ): http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Continental&tireModel=ContiSportContact+3

According to this chart 8.5 is not suitable wheel for this tyre.
