Anyway, had the car weighed this weekend.
Not overly happy with what it came out to, but there is still room for improvement.

Started off at 1230 Kgs when I bought it.
As it stands now, with cyclones it came to 1080 Kgs.

I can lose some of that weight straight away by swapping to the Pro Race 1.2's and fitting the AP 4pots (10 Kgs im guessing Dunno)

Taking the angle grinder to the excess bits of metal.

Are you rebuilding the car with fibreglass? I dont think anyone on here has been near that weight?????

If you ever try and take out most of the dash and ventilation system, you will find out the real weight in a 306!!LOL
There's lots of details, such as:

- "complete" dash with the tachometer and warning lights 3kgs... the standard weights a ton!!LOL LOL
- more than 15kgs lighter front and rear brakes.
- more grinding on the doors, plus the holes like eddie on it's former 6.
- 6kgs lighter mount for the alternator and PA system...
- 12kgs lighter wheels than the standard cyclones
- 12kgs lighter fibreglass bonnet and boot, comparing to the already lightened version that i had
- 7kgs lighter side windows and boot with 3mm polycarbonate
- more than 10kgs lighter battery and battery mount.
- 5kgs lighter drilled bumpers, using only two screws to hold them up...everything else was shaved, including foglights
- lighter electric power steering, using no oil reservoir, oil , oil tubes and PA pump.
- lightened door hinges
- lightened wheel hubs (front and rear with waved shape)
- less than 6kgs carbon bucket seat
...

The engine/gearbox is supposed to be around 14kgs lighter than the xu10j4rs, but i will confirm it later.

People have done all that before. I think its abit optimistic the weight your going for unless you go all out with carbon fibre.

You could get that well under 800kg then in theory? Fiberglass the panels, doors, boot, lighter brakes...

Fibreglass usually is lighter than carbon fiber. Wink
That´s not optimistic, that's just maths being done...i weight everything that goes in and out o the car, so the predictions can be accomplished.
That's a lot of guys that already done this kind of mods, but no one has done all of it in one car alone. Wink

- you can add to the diet a single wiper conversion wich is almost 3kgs lighter and no rear wiper (2kgs'ish)
- new and simplified looms, 6kgs lighter
- no handbrake cables and it's system at the rear calipers, 1,5kgs off the car
- no exhaust protections, only keeping the the one below the gas tank...almost 2kgs off.
- slim fans conversion, 5kgs lighter
- alloy radiator, 2,5kgs lighter
- no disc brakes rear protection...(the use of the car in Portugal doesn't need that at all)
- fibreglass headlights. 4,5kgs lighter including the loom out for itBig grin Big grin
...

Midlife spotted the parts exactly...lolol

That was my first version of it, for standard 306 18mm hubs, using uniball's.
I now use 406 hubs, with a different kind of linkage to the suspension arm.

Eliotrw, i only used the s16 mounts for the alternator and PA pump wich is a lot smaller than the gti6 one.
Besides that, i've also made some changes, making it even lighter.

Weighed mine at Mallory Park this weekend.

1069kg (giggidy).

That's with a half cage in, and a lot of other stuff stripped out, on Team Dynamics 1.2's.

Still plenty of weight to come out (i.e. the dash, the sound deadening on the floor, wiring etc etc)
