Just a thought, but would it be worth slapping another page in the "classifieds" forum list so people can check the value of their cars//parts/unwanted spouses etc? I can only see it being of benefit really:

A) Stops them being posted everywhere else
2) People can search through the existing threads more easily to get an idea of what their stuff is worth before posting
iii) Stops them being posted everywhere else.

Remember, one persons opinion of a value doesn't mean it's actually worth it, or achieveable. I would say those threads actually confuse a seller more as one person will say 'it's worth £1500 as is' when in all fairness that same person would never actually pay it - just thinks that's what they would want from their similar example. And another will say £400 as that's what they paid for similar.

All people need to do is search for sale threads and see what values are listed. If the item being cross referenced hasn't sold then it's perhaps not a good price to go on. If 15 people have shouted dibs - this still isn't a good price to go on as not everyone puts money where their mouth is.

Price things at what you think is achieveable and would be happy accepting.

nothing is 'worth' anything unless someone is buying it themselves, and then it becomes as cheap as possible, thus complete waste of time ever asking the question

Maybe have the section, but as soon as you post you get an automated reply that says "it's worth f**k all, you stupid bas**rd, what were you thinking?!", then locks the thread.

I think Dan makes some good points and in reality it's not really going to be of benefit in the long run. No

Yeah I can see his points, but these threads will still appear and since there's demand, perhaps supplying a proper outlet for that would be useful.

I can create a new forum easily enough, my concern is that every thread will just end up with either "nothing, throw it away" or "put it on eBay, see what happens" ...

I can see the logic in that, but I reckon if when there's a time and a place for such threads they may be taken more seriously.

Personally I think it's good. It can give someone a rough idea to a random part they want to sell.

Yes, but it's only an idea. Like people have pointed out in the past, things may not fetch the money others think the item is worth, as things are only worth what someone is willing to pay.

Ash, there is an issue with the new forum. Yes

The counters for "threads" and "posts" which appear on the main forum page are still both sat at "0" and not counting...Sad
