Both fans should run together, either both at low speed or both at high speed.

What happens when you unplug the brown coolant sensor? With the fan system functioning correctly both fans should come on at low speed for a few seconds and then switch to high speed.

Does your A/C work? If it doesn't then the button won't do anything. You can rig the A/C pressure switch to bring the fans on with the switch if the A/C doesn't work, but there really is no need. The standard fan system, when working correctly, is more than adequate.

A working fan motor swap will short it. Got one you can have if you want to take that route.
