Having looked trough a few project threads etc etc I've noticed a coupe of (mainly racing and conversion) peeps using non std/ 205 rads in their itb'd 6 lumps, now I was wondering how cooling was effected etc for a road goin vehicle, id like to experiment with a 'shorter' rad so I can copy the yellow perils cut/shut slam panel and droppin he centre for a more direct air feed without breaking the bank looking for/ special ordering a rad

Thoughts/ experience welcome
Phil

I run a 205 nissens rad on my mi'd 205 and that stays at a perfect temp when driven daily and still fine when being driven hard. I bought it off a mate that was running a gti6 lump on tb's being used as a track car and he said it was fine in his too.

I know its not in a 306 but can't see why it would be any different to a 205 with same engine fitted.

Height is the idea I'm led to believe they're shorter so I can lower the slam Panel and get more cold air instead of sucking warm air through the rad

I used one of these in my 309 when I fitted the Gti6 lump:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEUGEOT-205-309-1-6-1-9-GTI-8v-1-8-TD-TWIN-CORE-HIGH-FLOW-ALLOY-RADIATOR-/230845215316

Would give you plenty of room to lower your slam panel for good air flow to your TB'sThumbs up

Thinking back I also moved it forwards, which created loads of room between inlet and radYes

Is that the exact ad you bought your rad off then?

As the bottom hose on yours goes into the engine bay, whereas the one in the picture of the ad goes out to the side in the same direction as the standard 6 rad... Just curious, as not sure if its a generic picture or the specific one being sold...

I had the pipe moved, due to moving the rad forward it would not fit with it sticking out of the side.

Also had the mounting bar on the top welded on.Thumbs up

Fits like a boss measurement wise....
Also cos of width a lovely oilcooler would fit nicely without affecting the rad

Ah I see. Makes sense now! What was the cost of having that moved out of interest? Was it easy to find someone to do it?

As said earlier, a nissens rad designed for the 306 will come up to the same height, they are slightly thinner but not shorter I don't think. A 205 one might be worth looking into as someone else suggested.

You want to lower the radiator, just to get air filter over it, and get fresh air out from the rad?
Wouldnt it be easier and as effective to fit a tray from the top of the rad, to the bottom of the filter, blocking the air from it, and suck the air that comes over the rad?
