Depends how long you run them at max rpm for as stress is cumulative. 7,400 probably fine all day long, 8,000 probably 500-1000 miles of hard use with better rod bolts, 9,000 probably all of ten seconds without forged rods and pistons. Not a lot to be gained by increasing the rpm on standard cams though as torque drops off rapidly past 6,500.

I'm currently revin to 7200rpm in my s16 with kent cams, bike bodies and remap, bhp and torque figures are constant all the way, but due to it being quite high millage now :/ its due a rebuild and was curious on what the internals are capible of so I know if to uprate them or not,

shouldn’t need to rev it much further at all, check the cam timing, having it retarded will push peak power up the rpm and drop torque.

its the valvetrain that limits things in the main.

Your engines alright dean. It don't smoke or make dodgey noises. I'd say just raise it a tad if need be but I reckon once you map it you'll probably not need too. Wink
