Well, I run a set of C5 wheels and I love the weight... but no the cheese like strength of the rims.

I hit a pothole last month and when I stuck my winters on, I saw the damage done. A huge prang on the inner.

"Great" I thought. "I'll clean it and get a better look"

"Even better, the f**king rim has split!" There's a split from the edge of inner rim by about 2-3" inches

I'll get a picture up tomorrow before I have a go at welding it.

Anyone else had this issue?

Sad to hear you bent one, can easily be done with our roads, i have a set plus one extra just in case but wont be using them over winter at all, too dark and can easily miss the pot holes.

What profile tyres are you running?Wink

Need to remember these wheels were used with 65 odd profile tyres as standard,so a lot more protection than say 50 profileYes

^^ This. They're light, not strong. I'd use a set on track but not on the road.

55 Profile, but now on 50's. They weld up nicely, so I'm not too fussed, but they are soft as s**t

Any of the C5 alloys will be the same, I'd imagine? Mine are the ones that take the tapered bolts if it makes any difference

I take it this thread has been tampered with as it makes no sense and there is an abuse report.

Same thing happened on one of my Renault alloys. I thought a pothole had caused a puncture until the tyre man said "what do you want me to do about this crack?". It wasn't even the tyre that was damaged but I had already paid for it.

That's what I thought, sort of.

I saw the inside of the wheel had a little bulge and thought that's where it was leaking, I tapped that out and refitted the tyre with a bit of bead seal.

Then I saw the split!

Coincidently, we had a DB9 come in which also had a split rim.... I can only hope he was flying around Northumberland's B-roads like me.... doubt it though haha

Bmw runflat alloys tend to crack too.

I only had issues from fair impacts, 11k miles of welsh lanes and city driving theyre still round.
