hi all

as you may have noticed i recently put a 'whats it worth' thread up to guage any interest in my gti6. i have also advertised it in the cars for sale section, i know its only been up for a few days but i am quite desperate to move on from the six as my position at work has now changed and as a result need a car better suited to commuting, but can't really afford to keep two cars. i have already lowered my original asking price down from £2600 to £2000 but desperate times call for desperate measures so i am prepared to lower it further.

Key points to bear in mind:

X reg GTI 6
87500 miles
Cambelt kit JUST changed
new brakes (discs/pads) all round ready to fit
NEW spax suspension full kit also unfitted
mint interior (freshly resprayed)

No exspense has been spared on the car, anything needed doing, i sorted it straight away without question.
I knew from the start that modifying cars NEVER pays off but i would at least like to get what i paid for her or there or thereabouts.

shes in good nick and i'm sure the new owner will enjoy her as much as i have but the time is now to move on.

as mentioned i will be open to any offers

Smile

Don't mean to sound harsh but before Christmas you'll be lucky at that price. I'm sure its worth the money you're asking but to the average person they could pick another gti up for around 1k Sad

Unfortunately quick sales mean rock bottom prices.

To get a decent price for a car, you have to wait for 'that buyer'.

Completely honest feelings based on real facts coming up. Disregard it by all means but appreciate it.

As I said in another thread, having a cage classes your car in the 'track day' field - although in my opinion having a half cage doesn't in my mind constitute a car in that market someone would pay a premium for.

Granted it's a fairly low mileage, but what makes it worth twice, 4 times the rest of the 6's on the market?

As there are numerous £450 examples for sale as we speak, prospective buyers will always have those vehicles in the back of their minds when considering yours.

Mr trackday wannabe is having a browse. He's going to see that at 2300 and tot up what else it needs to be ready for the track. Realistically he will probably buy an £800 example and spend £1500 exactly where he wants it.

Look at the competition and your spec and place it realistically.

A charged version of your vehicle with similar mileage went for not a lot more.

I happened to buy an X reg China for £500 a few weeks ago. Granted the dash illuminated a higher number and it didn't have a cage, but again - I'm just saying think about what's out there.

I'm glad you said that as I read it back after posting remembering editing wasn't an option and hoped you didn't think I was being s**tty LOL

With regards to the 'what makes it twice, 4 times the others on the market' point - you're really going to have to sell the car hard in an advert to get viewers to come and see it. Really decent pics, history dating back with as many points as you can about servicing and one thing and another.

You've obviously based the price on others and the extra amount comes down to your recent expenditure and you feeling the need to get a return on that. List some invoice prices, emphasise what you've spent out on it and make people aware that it doesn't need XYZ.

Whatever you've spent on it which would be a concern for someone - list it. Beam replacement 2 years ago or whatever.

The more you write the less questions you will get asked and the more serious a buyer is likely to be. OK essays can bore some people. But to a genuine buyer sitting through 20 paragraphs and having every concern detailed is going to be reassuring.

I'll take it if you pay me?

As has been mentioned, unfortunately nothing changes the fact that these are old, unsafe, cheap cars and they're not worth anything like as much as we'd like them to be.

I've spent over £6k on mine, and I'd be lucky to get back the £2.5k mark on that, even then it'd be bought to break I'd imagine.

You either need the best price or you need it gone, can't get both unfortunately.

    Let me sum it up

You are f**king dreaming if you think it's worth 2350!

Put it up for 1500 and be happy with anything around that mark

I think this is more realistic. Yes

That's kinda what I was trying to say, just a little more directly.

Take a look on Autotrader for the kinda things you can get for £2k:

    Focus ST170, 73k
    206 GTI, 79k
    Alfa 147 2.0
    Astra 2.2I 16V SRI 41K
    Clio 2.0 16V Renaultsport 172
    Golf GTI 2.0

On paper (opinions may vary) these are all much better, newer, safer cars than a GTI-6. Sadly I do agree you need to re-evaluate your price to something more realistic.
