So with it being pitch black in the mornings I've kinda realized When I open the drivers door the interior lights don't pop on,yet when I open the passenger door they pop on?!?

Anyone else have a clue on what this could be?

Ph1,2 or 3? ph1 or 2, it is just a switch in the door shut next to the loom. Pretty much the same across all cars that use a switch in the door shut. its basically just a generic part. if its a ph3, its built into the door lock and youll need a new lock unit

take it out and see if the cable is still attached. its only a spade terminal that slide on. If it is, try cleaning up the back of the switch and the body of the car. It uses a metal plate on the back of the switch to earth back through the body.

The one in my 205 gave up the ghost so I dug out a 306 one to replace it (same part) so I took the old one out and plugged the new one in. I thought to myself 'let's make sure it works before I fit it.'

It didn't work, and I was about to start breaking the thing for parts in anger when I decided to screw it in so it was out the way when I slammed the door - and bingo we have light. I then suddenly realise the fact it has one wire going to it an the earth is through the backing itself and the screw going into the door shut. I LOL'd.

Just to resurrect an old thread, and prove I've tried using search ;-) this is an issue on my rallye. What does this "switch" near the door loom look like? Am I getting the door card off to find this? Or is it in the hinge area of the door??

I think it is just a little plastic tab that you push down in the door shut that you can see without removing the doorcard, somewhere above or below the hinge. It's just a tab that would get pushed in when the door is closed.

Bear in mind that electrical faults in the doors could simply be broken wires in the driver's door loom which is very common.

It was the little thing. Moved it from the passenger side to drivers side and works fine. Gonna rob a sensor out of the passenger side of my '6 I think! Don't think it'll be the last time the '6 donates sum parts to the rallye!

Yes I replaced both mine a couple of years ago and as others say they are cheap enough from Pug. Just be careful swapping them over that you don't let the wire get lost in the hole in the pillar. I did but managed to get it back out again.

So I ignored advise and borrowed the ones from the gti. However neither worked? The passenger side was working up until I took the part for the drivers side (this is in the Rallye) so I went to put the parts back in the gti and now neither work! So for a mornings work the Rallye still only gives me interior light 1 side and now the interior light doesn't automatically come on at all in the gti when it did do previously! Great.

Any advice on what I've done wrong? Surely the wiring hasn't died between the passenger side working and me taking the part out and putting new part in?!?!
