there are 2 green ones the same which i guess you could swap over, they looked the same to me. i think i did that initially on mine as the first one was all melted at the pin

but you do need both relays. well, my gti6 (p3) did (with aircon)

my 306 hdi heater didn't work, think the lights came on though, forget now. anyway after changing the relays and it didn't make any difference. then my mate got in, tried the heater which didn't work, so proceeded to boot the bottom of the heater in the passenger footwell once, for the heater to come back on and hasn't failed since!

i'd try swapping the relays over first with a known working good one. mine actually worked by wiggling it for a bit but it was visibly knackered as the pin was melted and stuck into the fusebox in the end

It's the relay. It's the green one closest the drivers door. The other are the same. But it'll be obvious if it had it.

Here's my old one with exactly the same symptoms.

Just pop down a scrappy and you'll find one sure.

If not that maybe a fuse or the controls are shafted.

stop guessing and actually work it out, get the multimeter out, and the haynes manual.

have u got power going to the motor??? find out which wires do wat and see what feed them n check the feeds for the correct voltage , if you have no voltage work your way to the source until you get the correct voltage. Or work from the source forwards to the same effect simples.

exactly what happens to mine. why does it melt? cos this is the 4th relay iv had this year thats melted. is there another fault that could trigger it to melt?

That's exactly what my phase 2 did a year or so ago. It melted the relay plug as well so had to remove all of it and cut off and re-wire etc. Worked fine since.

First thing I'd do is remove the motor and stick 12v straight accross it.
