I had mine down to around 1020kg before i had the roll cage fitted. That was stripped, most un-necessary brackets removed, no spare wheel etc. Standard seats & glass windows, very little fuel from memory.

Most of the weight loss on a maxi is at the rear beam though, which isn't practical for a track day car! I'd be surprised if a 306 has got down to 860kg still driveable too. My old 306 was about 1020kg with 1 bucket seat and nowt in it. Perspex windows, doors and interior were chopped out as far as you could go without thinking alloy boot floor and stuff like that. Even if the panels were changed to fibreglass I would think there would be maybe 30kg to save at the most.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm eventually looking to start racing in Trackday Trophy and they separate their classes by power to weight ratio. The classes are split thus:

Class B 151 - 175 bhp/ton
Class C 126 - 150 bhp/ton
Class D 101 - 125 bhp/ton
Class E up to 100 bhp/ton

There is a Rallye that raced before with a weight of 1116.5kg and ATW power of 130.2bhp. That puts them at a P/W of 116.6bhp/t, squarely in class D.

So, based on your info and that I don't do any engine work (bar a good service), if I can get the weight to around 1040kg I should be at the max amount for that class.

Maxi examples are a perfect waste of time, because they even use original door cards, electric windows, etc...

There's a lot of weight to be saved on little details such as a simple bracket that holds engine acessories...7kg'ish of pure waste, wich can be turned into a few grams with a s16 simple bracket for the alternator.

My car isn´t for road use, altought it can go to trackdays driving it.

Power steering off - 10kgs less
Front hi spec brakes - 10kgs less
Rear brake lightweight treatment - 4kgs less (handbrake cables and simplified calipers)
Fully chopped doors and boot - 25kg less
Smaller engine starter - 2kg less
Smaller alternator - 3kg less
Smaller battery - 10kgs less
Abs ph1 out - 8kgs out
...

Gti6 bracket

After...(s16 bracket lightweight version)
