Have had a quick search of forum but nothing seems to be similar to my fault.

Just started the car from cold and noticed the gauges doing full sweeps and then stuck at just over 100mph and about 6200 rpm which is when I also noticed the misfire.

Went for a short drive and it went away but then on idle had the misfire and gauge reading again. I assume this is a code for a specific fault. But I have no idea what is.

Does anyone know what this means?

Will do all the usual checks at weekend; plugs, compression test etc...

gauges going round usually indicate low voltage aka dying battery

Thanks for these replies.

So both are symptoms of a shared problem rather than the gauges indicating a specific fault from the ecu?

Update: just been for a 10 min drive and now constantly misfiring throughout rev range. Sounds like beetle. Does not want to stall but slight petrol smell in car.

Think the AA will be getting a call as all my tools are 100 miles away (bangs head against wall).

Sounds like a mixture of a dodgy Earth/low batt and a bad coil/plug. Yes

With regards to the clocks, Dum Dum had the same issue recently and it was a duff alternator
