Hi guys,

As can be seen in my other thread, my gearbox has decided to destroy itself, so I need to source another one.

Anyway, what is the best way of removing a gearbox? Leaving engine in the car or taking it all out? Would I need a crane if I take the whole engine out?

Thanks in advance for any help Thumbs up

Bit of a bump to this. I need to pull the box from the race car and it's such a PITA I wanted to see how others did it. Undoing all the stuff is easy but whenever I come to actually remove it there's always something in the way around the subframe area. Putting it back in is even worse, takes me ages to line it all up!

I removed mine the other day, did it on my own.
I put a jack under the gearbox to support the weight, removed the gearbox mount and lower engine one then lowered the engine onto some bricks to support that weight, undid the gearbox to engine bolts then pulled the box off, lifted it by hand and spun it 90 degrees so the diff was at the top and lowered the jack. To re-fit I plan to do the opposite of removal as the subframe always gets in the way.

This, but I used an engine crane as my backs f**ked.

Drop the engine a little so the box doesn't foul the chassis.

I'll attach the crane to a loop in the middle of the box.

Pull the box away from the block.

Support the box and change the lifting point to the rear and then lower the box.

The first loop in near the breather and the second near the gear selectors.

take the speedo housing off, makes it easier to get in onto the engine.
