Morning chapsSmile

I noticed the other day while checking levels the fluid in expansion bottle looks like plain waterUnsure
As its getting cold at night now i want to get some antifreeze in the system. I am intending on getting cambelt and water pump done next month so dont really want to go mad draining system just for it all to be dumped out when cambelt etc is done.
Can anyone give me an idea how to get some antifreeze in and also which ONE of halfords many coolants to use? i see they do some for cars before '98 and after '98.Mines a l8 '98 Dunno

The other thing is i dont believe my car has standard radiator.Its an alloy oneUnsure

Antifreeze does 2 jobs. firstly helps prevent your coolant freezing secondly prevents the oxidisation of your block where the coolant flows. so i would put some in sooner rather than later tbh.

I'd just use their standard post-98 stuff, thats what I've always used. You need to make some room for the coolant, so you'll need to drain off some of the other stuff. Two quick options - undo the bleed valve at the bulkhead, or the one on top of the rad. Run the engine to get the pump moving, and just let it p**s out over the floor. As the level drops in the reservoir, top it up with coolant.

I use Citroen's Antigel when I can, if you don't know what's in there just dump all of it.

Right men.....i've been out and took some picsThumbs up
Here is my radiator





And expansion bottle





I have this plug on top right hand side of rad



And this one on the bottom right hand side





Is that top one the one suggested to undo to let water out or should i drain from that bottom one?Unsure

If i drain from that bottom one i guess i have to then refit bottom one and fill with coolant until it flows out of top plug then wait until it flows out of this one....



I have looked for one on/near the bulkhead but i cant see oneDunno

top point is for bleeding, as is the thermostat one, bottom is for draining.

follow the heater pipes to where they join the matrix poking through the bulkhead, you will see a bleed point there or on a short piece of smaller bore pipe.

Just to clarify about coolant, the pre-'98 stuff is the older blue type which lasts around 2 years. The post-'98 stuff is the later orange stuff that is put in all new cars, and which lasts longer apparently (5 year interval is what it says on the bottle).

You can use either type, as long as when changing from one to the other you fully drain the old coolant and refill entirely with fresh new stuff.

Wouldn't run water only in any car in any climate but especially not this one where it is wet/cold and most people don't have garages so cars sit outside a lot.
