Hi,

My 98 6 has the long type of cable, does anyone know where i can get a new cable the same length ?

I ask because they coast £49 from service box, pt number 1629G0 and cant see anywhere that states its length.

Do the universal have the same sort of rubber bungs for them to fit as original ?

it just comes as a kit wherever you buy it from, £18 form gsf iirc, with lots of various pug related fixings

I bought one from a factor. Wasn't much more than a tenner. As above it comes
with various fixings so you pick out the correct ones and cut it to length.

    You would think that the price Pug charge it would come all ready to fit. I can understand a factors selling it as a kit, as it's a lot cheaper from them. Yes

    granted the cable is actually much higher quality.

    handbrake cables for example, £35 each from a dealer, £15 odd from ecp+gsf for the same brand.

    I agree, they should have them ready made for £50, at that price i expect them to never be a NFP part.

    Nothing more annoying than a sticky excel cable.

    It's true, the reason you go to a dealer is because you get an OE part and keep the quality within the vehicle. You don't expect to go there, get ripped off and then walk away with a DIY 'kit'...Doh

    Short way Unsure ?

    I'm fitting it the same way as was, neater for the engine bay instead of either over the manifold or over the head, both look messy to me.

    Keep this posted with how you get on. Want to change the cables on both Rallyes as I think they're stretching when the engine is warm.

    Having it zig zag across the engine bay or go right around the front of the engine bay were, astonishingly, the two standard routings for the throttle cable.

    I guess it depended on who was fitting each 306, for me the long way round is better when you can took it under the engine mounting, especially on a 205's.

    May be neater, but much heavier.

    Tried it that way on my 309, then put it the much shorter route over fuel rail etc and you get a way lighter pedalThumbs up

    Pug changed the design as the cars went into Phase 3, they must have done that for a reason...

    Not at all, just trying to figure out what a real difference it makes. So i guess it would be good for those that have a heavy foot. For all we know the feel could be down to the quality of it due to most people buying the cheaper version, the 6's old cable felt fine for me, also it not over the engine.

    My thoughts are is when a cable is turned and twisted like over the engine, it would give it more friction to pull the wire/cable than a cable being straighter. The wheel comment is like when you have smaller wheels which equals to less friction, which then makes it go slightly faster, thus shorter cable = less cable friction equals lighter feel.

    I have two cables now so i'll try both long and short and report back.

    Anyway > As for the price of the cable, its nearly 20 quid now, yet still has a few bits that dont fit as OE like the rubber mountings and metal fixing hook.
