As some of you may have seen, I have offered to swap my Magnex system and de-cat for a standard system and normal cat in the wanted section.

Has anyone fitted a de-cat to a standard system? Might be a bit easier for me if I just source a standard cat back system and use my Magnex de-cat, but I have two questions:

Is there any issues such as the middle box going/blowing much sooner due to having a de-cat in front of it? And would a standard system mate straight up to my Magnex de-cat?

Thanks for any help guys Smile

I ran a magnex on a standard system for about 6 mouths and sounded great and was straight fit, I think I may no help the blowing of the middle section as I derestricts the air flow.I reckon if you drove it hard all the time I.e cosnstantly trying to get it poping you'd eventually do it.

Decats do have a detrimental effect on centre boxes. Yes

My decat blew the baffles out of my Magnex centre section. Yes

And then when I ran the straight through centre section the baffles got blown out of the backbox. Yes

In pre-CAT days the exhausts were made with better baffles which would withstand higher gas flow. A centre section bought these days for a car which was designed to use a CAT will have weaker baffles than one which was made for a car which was older and didn't have a CAT. Therefore, the use of the decat will effect the silencer over time. Wink

I very much doubt that, I have seen what places like longlife etc have on the shelf, and they certainly don't have cat specific silencers LOL

i.e, magnex silencers are s**t LOL

Roll eyes

It may well also have something to do with my car is running over 450bhp, which is rather more than a standard one would put out down the Magnex. Yes

Silly boy. Roll eyes

Its one of those really, you tend to sacrifice a bit of midrange torque for top end losing the cat. Gains you bugger all really imo. Mine certainly didn't feel quicker as a daily driver.

Same here but with a standard engine. Same as my bro's as well but don't know what exhaust he has.

I would think a decat with a standard exhaust would do the same. Although having no baffles in the centre section is not the end of the world, just a bit louder. I've not got mine fixed and have the cat back in now although not driven it for months.

Welshpug you do make me laugh! LOL

Mine is a powerflow centre section with a scorpion back box and yes, the centre section is now hollow thanks to my decat.

I didn't like the the lack of torque with a de-cat so put the cat back on my longlife. My car feels better low end and mid range now. Smile
