This is on my 1.8 16v XS xu7jp4.

I have a hesitance after 5500rpm at which point the engine managment light comes on and then goes out when I drop the revs for the next gear.

I've changed the plugs, coil pack, lambda sensor, MAP sensor and the TPS to no avail.

There is a small black cube looking sensor bolted to the end of the exhaust cam carrier. It has a black wire coming from it that goes to the plug for the coil pack. Anyone know what this is?

I'm determined to get this sorted as other than this little niggle its a spirited little motor.

Thanks in advance.

the little thing you describe is just a capacitor (IIRC) to prevent RF noise.

is it modified and have you had the codes checked?

Thanks, I wondered what it was.

The only modification is a gti6 exhaust manifold, cat, centre section. Everything else is standard inc airbox/air filter.

This problem was there before the exhaust components were changed and is still the same.

I was wondering if it could be an ecu fault with the sl96.

I had the codes checked and it said lambda sensor fault which I changed. It made a difference but still this hesitance when approaching redline.

It might be running lean with the different inlet and the hesitance is the ecu trying to work out what the hell is going on.

It's the standard plastic inlet. Only the exhaust mani has been changed.

Yeah, instead of paying £30 to have the codes checked, spend £1500 on throttlebodies, why the feck not LOL

I feel this engine has great potential with better management and bodies. I love how effortlessly it revs and how light it makes the front end. It's like driving a 205 gti.

Needs more power though.

yup, Sandy Brown did essentially that with a 309 Goodwood.

That's interesting to know. It's starting to become quite popular with the 205/309 guys I've noticed.

I would be really happy with 150hp which I don't think is too far out of the way. It has a lot of torque as standard and really pulls from 3000rpm. Surprising for an over square engine.

You have an xu7 yourself don't you Mei?

I plugged the diagnostic machine into my car again to see if any more faults show up and low and behold;

At least I know where to look now. Now to figure out if its a bad injector or a break on the loom.

It's probably a dodgy injector to be honest out of the two I would have thought. Yes

That would be nice as its only a case of swapping for a new one. I'm not a fan of repairing wiring looms tbh.

Or you could swap the injectors around and see if the fault code changes?

This would be the best option, swap 1+4 with 2+3, clear the ECU and then see what code it throws. Yes
