Doesn't look vented to me. I'd have thought it would have to breathe somewhere though.

The 'show' engine isn't vented, there is a cap on the vent. The picture of the engine installed in a car is vented though.

And what are the two electrical connections for on the inlet manifold? The ones next to the head...

Gonna email the team which has the 406 Coupe with the Xsara Kit-Car engine to see if they are helpful enough to give us a bit more info.

Could they be knock sensors or something along those lines?

I know that citroen never used any info that peugeot gained from there kit car program.
The engine used an 88mm bore by 82 stroke.
The citroen engine never revved as hard as the peugeot engine did. The peugeot engines had a rev limit of 9700rpm where the citroen were around the 8800-9000rpm mark.
I know the peugeot engines had 9 evolutions from when they started to when they finished the program.
I don't know how many evolutions citroen did with the engine

I spotted the rev difference!

The Xsara Kit-Car engine used to develop 295hp@8500rpm and 250Nm@7250rpm

The last Maxi, the EVO9 had 308hp@11.000rpm and 265Nm@8900rpm

The most surprising is the fact that the Xsara Kit Car engine is so close to the roadgoing VTS engine, that even the rev range is only about 2000rpms higher! Yet it develops 295hp! Scary Big grin

BTW. I sent Gwynnespeed a message hoping to get a bit more info about these beasts!

The evo 8 and 9 engine for peugeot were very well known for blowing up they were known as hand grenades.
The evo 7 engine is the best out of the lot of them.
Also don't forget these engine ran on 120 octane fuels.
The fia where strict on peugeot at the end of development putting inlet resistors on the engines and capping sizes on valves and stuff

184LB/FT vs 250NM (~185lbft) not that bigger difference, although with variable length inlets etc I'm sure the citroen motor would have been a damn site friendlier to drive!

Isn't it Peter Wilkinsons old 306? It had a 405 supertouring car Mi16 engine in it when I saw it? I'm sure I have some pictures of it somewhere, I'll dig them out.

Interesting setup for the variable inlet there. Without much more design work it could be made as a progressive variation, rather than a switched long/short length, and at different RPM's could have been mapped to specific lengths. I've got a chart somewhere showing how Ferrari mapped a progressively variable inlet on their 2000/1 F1 V10 engine that helped it break 800bhp for the first time.

How could you achieve progressive variation? I'm researching all necessary info to build my ITB system.
