hi all, (have done a search before hand but to no avail) really need help with this, so i have just removed both the front driver and passenger seats out of my PHASE 3 gti6, and installed some buckets & harnesses.

hey presto my airbag and pre tensioner warning lights come on like a treat ! Thumbs down

my question is, can i use a 2 ohm resistor on all three wires (seat airbag, pre tensioner, and earth??) to turn BOTH these warning lights off ?

or if not how can it be done edit: don't want to remove the bulbs

really want this sorted as the lights are really annoying

thanks alot

Best drop someone like Ruzzbez a PM as i know hes wired a resistor into the curcuit to remove the warning light.

Or go full on pikey and just remove bulb from dash clocks and Wizard VOILA! no more warning light

I'm sure as of late, the airbag light is a failure on the MOT isn't it?
And they know if you've taken the bulb out because it has to do a self test when you first switch on the ignition.

It's still currently only an advisory but by this time next year they plan to have it implemented as a fail.

Right, for everyone with this problem i have found the solution Wizard and maybe this can be faq'd for future reference admin?? Thumbs up
all you need to do is pop into your local maplins store and ask for a 1.8 ohms risistor and get 4 of them. then connect each one up to the red and orange plugs (1 of each on both sides) doing this correctly will thereby complete the airbag and pretensioner circuits and the warning lights will then disappear! Smoke

note: i found that you do not have to disconnect the battery to make this work

hope this is useful to everyone

Very useful info, but personally I'd never work on an airbag system without disconnecting the battery. If any part of it goes off you can do yourself serious injury.

Ignore all of what he said, just be sure to make sure a camera is pointed at you and rolling whenever you attempt to work on a live airbag circuit. Thumbs up

Absolutely. I'd be gutted to know I'd died in a horribly hilarious way and yet no-one had been able to see it.

Yeah piercing your own skull with the very screwdriver you were just using to prise out the airbag warning bulb, Oh the sweet irony.

ahhhh, now i realise maybe i might have been abit stupid in how i did it, but if it makes any difference i was only sorting the wiring for the seats side airbags not the steering wheel. and as i had removed the seats completely there weren't actually any airbags to set off in the first place Dunno

Apart from the ones in the seat ?

We set off an airbag for a laugh one day obviously not in the car and stood well clear - should of seen how far the cvnt jumped in the air LOL

Wouldn't advise trying it as highly dangerous - but funny as feck Big grin

They f**king fly when you set them off out of the car. I was surprised.
Should never ever even unplug a airbag on a car with the battery on. They need such a small amount of energy to detonate.
Another point is never use a multimeter on a airbag circuit. A friend learned this the hard way!
