The remote button on my key has stopped working. Opened it up and tried to press the pad on the board with a pin but still no joy so looks like I'll need a new key.

As I'm sure you'll know, replacement keys aren't cheap. Just been up to the dealers and a fully functioning key will set me back £173.53.

The guy at the dealership said a cheaper option could be to get a key from another car off eBay or from a breaker etc. Get that cut to my car and re programmed. But he wasn't sure if the remote would work this way. Just wanted to know if anyone has done this before or knows if it's a viable option?

will sort of work. get the blade cut to your car....that will cost about £5
the key works as two seperate parts. immobiliser chip and central locking chip. the immobiliser chip can be programmed to the car quite easily with pug planet and your key code (i can do it for you if your ever down my way by any chance) but the central locking chip is a bit more difficult. once its programmed, it generally cant be re programmed so its one use however sometimes it can work. its a bit hit and miss.
either way a key can cheaply be made to open the doors (assuming your not delocked) and start the car
