Ruan knows his s**t, at a guess it would be the same for the '6 as you would be loosing a 1/3 of the cooling system

nope, he's wrong I'm afraid, if you bypass its fine, blocking the pipes is another matter.

Exactly. I bypassed mine ages ago and have done several trackdays since, never been above 90 degrees.

Bypassing the matrix is not a problem.

Blocking the holes I agree could be a bad idea, but as for bypassing it - how much heat does he think you lose by pumping water through a heater matrix with no air moving over it Dunno

So...

Based on the above, what's the verdict then? Are you going to use Radweld or not? LOL

Youll still need an aircon matrix unless someone swapped the heater box

The old 'You need a Matrix thing' is only if you have a Mini (Proper one) and get stuck in traffic to keep the heat down, Other than that someone should point out to him that a Radiator is designed to cool coolant and the heater to heat the cabin

K-seal? Is this everyday stuff that can be bought anywhere? Would you recommend this over rad weld?
Cheers

K-seal is named after the K-series engine (supposedly). The "rad-weld will definitely gunk up your engine and kill it in a ball of fire" myth is complete bo***cks. The stuff has been around for a LONG time, which it wouldn't have been if it was as problematic as people think. People think it lines the entire cooling system and narrows it down slightly, which can block areas that are thin anyway. This is rubbish. It dilutes through your entire cooling system and when exposed to air at the point of the leak, it dries and seals the hole. the rest of it remains as a liquid until it either find another leak, or you flush it out. People *have* found it to completely block pipes, but if your cooling system has been bled properly you won't have the air bubbles in there that causes this.

I don't know if K-seal works the same way, but it seems to be the more popular of these type of products, although it's more expensive off the shelf, but try eBay.
