Bit of a head scratcher this one. Fitted the 406 brembo calipers, braided hoses and new Tarox g88 xantia v6 discs, coupled with new OE Pug 406 pads, which went together lovely, Pads are a good fit in the calipers and no squealing.

At the same time, i fitted new rear Tarox g88 discs and a set of new gen pug rear pads, again, fitted fine.

I bled the brakes front and rear, 3 times in fact with a professional garage pressure bleeder and the pedal is still poor.

Ive done approx 75 miles on the road to try and bed the pads in, thinking its a bedding in issue, but the pedal feels crap still.

The brakes work well, stop the car fine, no pulling side to side, no sticking pistons etc etc, just the pedal is as spongy as hell.

Could there be air in the system somewhere else, ie ABS pump? So far we've done all the bleeding with the engine off also.

Anyone else with brembo's - is your pedal feel the same as the OE set up? Ie firm straight from the top?

shouldn't matter what fluid as long as its fresh, have you checked the rear load compensator if it has one?

I remember having issues with my 405 trying to get that bled as it was seized, also the 405 was very sensitive and you had to bleed it with the trailing arm raised, as if there was a load on the vehicle.

Never had issues with air in ABS pumps, if they were an issue I would imagine there would be bleed nipples on them, some vehicles do have.

New dot 4 fluid. Was flushed through 12m ago when i did the rear beam build. Standard master cylinder as well. No load compensator mei as its a phase 3 without one.

I still think its just down to the 4 pot calipersWink

like when you fit gti6 brakes to a 205/309,pedal travel changes a fair bit if you leave the standard master cylinder on,hence why people fit the 406 onesThumbs up

Anyone else had to fit a 406 master cylinder to a 306?

If so, which 406 M/C do you use?

You do get a slightly longer peddle with the Brembo's but nothing significant to warrant a 406 master cylinder.
As for sponginess, just keep bleeding the calipers, you'll get rid of the bubbles eventually.

Cool

Just been researching and the 406 and the 306 use the same size master cylinder (23.8mm), hence why no-one changes them when doing Brembo conversions.

I must be air somewhere, bloody cars!

Yeah I had to re-bleed mine a couple of times to get them completely through, just bubbles caught around the system that don't move until you're driving the thing.

i'd execpt there is still some air in there dude

when i fitted my ap's (2 pots) i had to bleed the system by pushing the pistos in and hold them in to get the air out, once i did that i had an awesome pedal

tempted to fit these on mine, but scared they will squeal

Make sure all the pistons were fully retracted when you commence bleeding.

My old Rover was terrible for bleeding, would always get air stuck in the ABS. I used to take it to a gravel car park, cycle the ABS 20 times and drive it around for a bit then the air makes its way to a nipple. Can't remember if the 306 is the same, it's been a long time since I did any work on it! there is no means to bleed it iirc.

Always find it takes a good number of bleeds to get it 100% if you've had everything off/open. Persevere and i'm sure you'll be rewarded.

My ex's old Rover had a new rear brake line, new rear calipers, new braided hoses and new front calipers and i couldn't get it to bleed for love nor money, was getting nothing but fluid. Ended up driving it to my dads with a super spongy pedal, cycling the abs loads on gravel, putting it on 4 stands and pumping the hell out of it. Got it close, then got an air bubble about an inch long out of one of the rears. Best brake pedal feel evaire after that.

Exactly fitted my 4pot brembo's this week, ha all pistons fully pushed in before I fitted ten gravity bled all 4 nipples a few times. Pumped the pedal till pressurised and did the same again, then bled properly from Each nipple with someone working the pedal whilst I opened and shut the nipples etc.

Pedal feels Almost the same as it did on standard calipers Big grin. Gotta fit the rear hoses yet though and will re bleed the fronts at the same time to make sure air is all gone.
