Love the mount much neater/ lighter?

Is it all custom made or bits from another car?

I think it's about 4 to 5kg lighter than the standard mount. Similar to what you get if you use the setup Damien has. It's mostly custom I think, the rubber bushes are wishbone bushes from a 306 which is useful and easy to replace.

Yes your spot on Dan Thumbs up ....what's interesting is standard Altenators 5kgs & mini 40amp kubota digger ones 2.3kgs so that's a big saving also as long as you don't need big amps for Heaters etc Whistle

I've got no heaters in mine, biggest thing is the starter! I've thought about going for a lighter alternator, might be something to look in to in the future. Although if I'm going to fit Corsa EPAS, not sure the 40amp one would be up to it?

It won't ....that's why I sold all my Corsa EPas to Chris Lapit Thumbs up .....plus don't really need it at Combe only Prescott that I'm not at this year Whistle

I'm still 50/50 on the EPAS. I probably should just man up and deal with no power steering Big grin

On another note, did a bit of work over the weekend. Sadly it wasn't on the race car as there's nothing really to do other than fix the clutch which I have no money for right now so all the work was on the truck.

First up I tried to get the floor a bit cleaner than it was. Bit of scrubbing and mopping and it looks a little better although still a lot of dirt ingrained. I think it was used for a rally car at some point, that or someone went in the gravel a lot!

I also cleaned up the window runners. The truck had been left for a while so there was a small garden growing in each window!

We also put the awning up for the first time. There were no instructions so took a bit of guessing but went up easily enough which is useful if it's raining when we arrive at a track Smile

Quite a lot of space in it even with 2 cars

That's it for now!

I have the electrical steering and can honestly say it's one of the best things I've done. I only have it with the 1st setting but makes it so much easier to drive. I used my car for a year with no power steering and was ok but on tight corners it just makes it so much easier

Well I found the problem with the clutch...

The spring is completely wedged in

Made getting the gearbox off a massive PITA! I'm going to throw another standard clutch in it for now so I can get out and race in June. Probably at the end of next year I'll put a paddle clutch in.

I wouldn't bother with a paddle clutch on a circuit car with a standard engine, rally car where its being abused certainly.

The engine is ~200hp so not completely standard. I only thought about going for a paddle clutch for peace of mind but the extra cost isn't worth it right now.

Yea, I'm not particularly gentle on it when racing Big grin Quite a few high rev clutch dumps to get the fronts spinning as I go on to the grid.

So I killed a second clutch! Exactly the same symptom as last time and when I took the box out, the same thing had happened again. I'm hoping I've found the root of the problem in that I only had 2 bolts holding the gearbox to the engine (the top 2). The bolt down by the diff kept falling out due to the thread being knackered so I've had it helicoiled. The front bolt just wasn't there at all! Another new clutch and both those bolts replaced and it's survived the dyno, so that's a start.

On the dyno front, it made 26hp less than last time which is a bit of a shock. Apparently it now has less power than a standard engine. I need to spend some time running checks on the engine, the main identifier so far is that it was running a bit rich. The same guy dynoed it that mapped it and he suggested maybe the timing had slipped a bit. The other difference was it was about -2 degrees when it was mapped and 30 when it was dynoed and while the dyno should have accounted for that, I wonder if the map itself is wrong.

Finally there seems to be a bit of an issue with the cooling system. After some runs I come in to find half the rad cold which I'm hoping was just an air blockage. I've bled the system a few times now so will see how it fairs at the weekend when I'm racing at Rockingham.

I'm running a 5 speed box so have a few less bolts. Missing a dowel shouldn't make much of a difference though?

typically the lower rear one, as its threaded into the soft aluminium, not the tougher steel block.

Hmmm. I don't have time to fix it now so I guess I'll have to hope it survives

Also 5 speed has same amount of bolts as 6 speed. Missing dowel will allow gearbox bolts to come loose

you only need to separate the block by 16mm to get 0131 16 in the gap.

threadlock and torque wrench.

such a severe engine power loss the mapper surely should have been able to identify that himself?

regarding the temp issues, I'd bung a new thermostat in asap, given its about 32 degrees today and a bowl like the rock can get even hotter especially when you take into account track surface temps.

I'll grab a new thermostat and put that in before the weekend. I'll also threadlock the gearbox bolts (apart from the one that's been helicoiled) but no time to pull the box off.
