yeah take plenty of pics so you know where all the wiring is routed, also the labels are a good idea, although most don't fit in the wrong ones, it would still help and you will feel more confident about the job then.

I had my air temp sensor wiring plugged into the reverse sensor an vice versa for around 6 months LOL
Car ran good still aswell.

most of the plugs are keyed so will only go on certain sensors, plus are colour coded

what is the problem again? your car doesn't run? or does, but badly?

replace loom, you can get them for about £20-25. but if the loom has been butchered or bodged there may be a reason

If the loom is as bad as you say it is, then a replacement will be necessary. Yes

It's an hours job for someone who hasn't done one before I would have thought, they're not hard to change. Smile

This is one of those jobs you could actually outsource to your wife while she's waiting for your tea to cook.

Purely an uplug and remove, and then lay it into position and plug it back in.

Not only are the plugs colour coded and aligned to go on the correct sensor, but the shape of the loom puts the plugs near to where they want to go. You'll have a clump near the throttle body for example, so once you have plugged one or two of them in, move down the loom and when you find a plug, find a sensor that it matches. If you are stretching it over the engine, it's obviously wrong.

Has the running of the car got any better now since you fitted it yesterday? Unsure

These cars are not the smoothest of idlers out there, so what you're experiencing now is probably normal. Yes

There's obviously a further fault still present, possibly now simply a sensor fault as the wiring has been replaced. Try cleaning the exhaust tip and then going for a drive and see what it looks like when you get back. If it has got excessively sooty then something is obviously causing it to run rich etc.
