This is the story;
Went out in the car the other night.
Came home, no more than 60mph (Mrs Tea in with me).
When I parked up the cooling fans came on.
It hasn't done that before.
Had a look, engine was hot, rad was cold.
The rad was half full (or half empty)
I've filled it up, bled it and run it up to temp, can't see any leaks, carpets are dry, no clouds of steam out of the exhaust.

Anyone have any thoughts as to where the water might have gone?

Engine hot - rad cold would point towards this...Yes

Keep an eye on it now that you've topped it up and bled it and go from there. Thumbs up

See now my rad cap area has a slight crack (On the top thread) which I wonder if that could be contributing to my problems...
Based upon the water lost as steam thing?

It might explain why i loose water only when the car has reached a certain temperature :S

A new rad cap is about £8, fairly cheap way of eliminating it as the problem. Yes

if youre only losing coolant after its reached a certain temperature the cap could well be the culprit but it might be worth having a look for staining on the radiator.

if theres a pinprick in it and coolant is seeping out, the antifreeze leaves behind a residue

Not that, when I ran it up to temp the rad gets hot.
Think the fact that the rad was only half full and the fans were running gave me my cold rad.

Not sure what temp I am loosing it at, gauge has not gone much over 80degree when in motion.

Can't see any traces of coolant, I have that pink VAG stuff in there and it is quite noticeable when it leaks.

I went out in it today, after 10 mins in the coop car park I had a large pool of water underneath.

When I had a look the water was dripping from the tatty remains of the placcy bag on the PAS ram.

I am hoping that it was just water coming off the air con (surprisingly it still works).

Still plenty of water in the rad.

What do you think?

The air-con leak off pipe is above the PAS protective bag, so most likely it was that. Yes
