i've just got myself another GTi6, the clutch is heavily worn but doesn't slip however it judders like hell

anyway when i drive it normal all gears are fine, if i try hurried changes into second it crunches...

i had a similar problem with a previous 6 but in third, i changed the clutch and all was well. i dont really fancy

changing the clutch then only to find out the problem remains

any thoughts?

Oil first, But if fitted with a Q/S they do bulk, Mines horried and when I get 5 min's I'm taking it off as the changes take longer with the silly thing fitted

it is worth changing the oil first.
sounds like the return springs are failing on the clutch which is quite common.

The judder is more than likely the pressure plate being fooked! As for the gear crunch I'd put money on it being the wrong box oil. I had the same issue when i bought my 6 and as soon as i changed it for the genuine Peugeot oil the crunch completely disappeard and still to this day its perfect.

In comparison to other 75/80w gear oils the pug stuff is like water which the BE boxes obviously love. Give it a go because either which way you'll need a new clutch.

The clutch being heavily worn will obviously require replacing. This will also solve the issue of judder as the friction plate being warped is what is causing this. Yes

As for the crunch into 2nd when changing quick but it's fine when changing slow gives me the impression that the synchro is on its way out...change the box oil first as has been said for the proper Pug stuff, you may be lucky and find this cures it, but I suspect you will end up needing a synchro to cure it fully. Yes

Oil change is the easiest (and cheapest) thing to do so give that a go first. Thumbs up

Not really, as he said, he now has a spare box if an oil change does fix it. Yes

small update, i changed the box oil with the proper Peugeot stuff (£27 lol) and there is no

difference, ok all other gears a wee bit smoother but 2nd still crunches

not too fussed though as box has to come out for new clutch which eddiebeano will be

collecting from eddygti6 tomorrow - Cheers lads!

Did the oil change fix it Hmm think not. We need myth busters on here to prove that the placebo effect of changing the gearbox oil is not even that. It's generally a waste of money on gearbox oil.

Laugh my ass off @ Jon!

If the gearbox oil that was fitted was incorrect then it could well have fixed it. However, if the oil was already correct then as I said above, I suspect the synchro is on its way out...Smile

Just be aware people have fitted new clutches to these, and the judder returns pretty quicklyThumbs down

I would get a spare flywheel surface ground ready for when you do clutchWink

or do what I did, treat yourself to a billet lightened flywheelCool

looking at my old flywheel it looks to have got high spots on it.
