I'm in the middle of rebuilding a set of Hi-Spec Billet 4 calipers. (part of the Peugeot 285mm conversion)

Does anybody know what kind of paint did they use on the calipers OR what paint would whitstand the heat? As eventhough I've painted my original calipers with heat resistant caliper paint it went black after a few track sessions Thumbs down

And it seems like I would need at least a new dust seal kit, so it would be even better to fit new seals. What are the part numbers of the piston seals and the small O rings, where the brake fluid goes through one side to the oother? I guess HiSpec used existing seals from a car, and did not have their own size made!

They should have been anodised originally.

It seems to be thicker than anodising!? Where it has scratches it looks like it has a kind of base coat. I don't strictly insist to make the same coat as HiSpec originally made, but I want a nice looking durable finish!

Powder coated I'd imagine, the only reliable way if they're not anodised and the only way you'd have a "thick" finish. Chuck up a picture Yes

No closeup picture yet, but gonne snap one right now!

But as said above I don't care if the finish won't be original. As soon as it would look good and would not burn on a hot trackday I would be happy! So in reality I'm looking for a good high temp red paint!

Personally if you're stripping them down I'd not even consider anything other than powder coating. The finish is infinitely better, won't fade and is many times stronger than normal paint.

Cost me about £50 (18k HUF) to do mine, best money I ever spent on getting the finish of something right.

Hmm, strange, all our hispecs are anodised. Fairly old now though, maybe they've switched to paint.

Anyway, either powdercoat or epoxy paint then.

A bit of update on this.

- The calipers were stripped and they are at the powder coaters right now.

- All caliper bolts were derusted using Deox C, and now they are plated and yellow passivated.

- I bought the rebuild kit for both calipers - cost me around 8GBP in all! (they use a roadgoing car's pistons, so the seals can be bought for that, although I don't know what car is it as we only checked the dimensions to be be the same. If they'll work good I'll post the make and model Wink )

- I bought a set of Exact braided brake lines with new banjo bolts.

- I bought brand new Brembo discs, as the guys at HiSpec were kind to tell me what discs are they:

"Renault 21 2.0 TXi or 2.0 Quadra from 1986-1994 with the following modifications:

PCD changed from 4 x 100 (D=14mm) to 4 x 108 (D=14mm)
Centre Bore changed from 61mm to 66.1mm"

These discs cost me 67GBP.

- The brake pads are Volvo 240 fitment (Volvo 200 240, 242, 244, 245, 262, 264, 265 ; 01/73>08/93 lucas caliper) with many compound options, but as the pads I received with the kit are in quite good nick I'm still undecided whether should I buy new or not....

Glad the plating process is working for you, did you get it sorted in the end?

Not really... still having issues with it, gonna ask Gateros plating a few questions again... But managed to plate the rest of the bolts LOL

My father already machined out the centre bores, and he'll make the PDC change soon, but if we don't have enough time we have a few friends with CNCs who will do the machining for free Big grin

Brake pads. If I can find M1155 pads cheap enough I'll convince myself to buy a new set.

So far found these:

-http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?show=27768 66.30GBP
-http://www.vsport.com.au/ecommerce/index.php?productID=598 66GBP
-http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MINTEX-FRONT-RACING-BRAKE-PADS-VOLVO-200-SERIES-240-INJECTION-2-0-MGB576M1155-/330619193092 80.85GBP

HiSpec sells these for 79.85GBP excluding VAT, so they can keep their pads on the shelf...
