My cousin has come round with an issue with his 1.4 hdi 206
Had a very loud rattle/tap from the engine bay
My first thoughts were shagged engine, but just to be on the safe side I took the aux belt off and the rattle has gone
What's the best way of diagnosing which aux part it could be? Is it just a case of spinning the pullies etc or giving them a waggle?
Is there a common one that fails?
Cheers in advance Thumbs up

The best engine in the world is the vagina, it takes any size piston, its self lubricating, starts with 1 finger, and every 4 weeks does its own oil change. It's just a pity the management system is so fecking temperamental.

Its common for the lower crank pulley to fall to bits

Whilst the belt is off and the engine is off spin the pullies and see if they spin rough etc.

Non gen ones will cure the noise, and be cheaper, but in my experience dont last anywhere near as long as the Gen pug ones.

This also happens to mondeo tdci's, if the pulley doesn't go, the tensioner does.

The 1.4's always have trouble with injector seals as well. Use the same engine in fiestas and forever getting those in with top end chuffing noises where the seals fail and let out compression. Something worth keeping an eye out for as once they've been gone a while they get a massive build up of coke past the injectors.

The engine is very quiet (for a derv)

brake cleaner/easy start/start ya bas**rd ftw Smile

any diesel will make a tap from an injector simply due to the pressures involved and what they do, easy enough to identify a leak though.

I bet you didn't get one from a 1.4 or 1.6 if it didn't fit.
