Standard box but gears were all new an has been shot peened

Personally I'd just stick a 5 speed Xsara VTS box on there and be done with it. Put the VTS rack on there at the same time too. 6 gears on these is really just a marketing gimmick. You don't need such close ratios with these engines and these cars to justify the extra gear and it's definitely not worth the reduced steering lock.
