Well if you don't fancy that, I'd suggest a new gearbox Dunno

Is there something special about this one that makes it worth repairing?

So this box WAS shot peened?

I know they aren't unbreakable (evidently), but I thought they were trusted to cope with high boost?

Seems a lot of cash to spend if they can still go bang

It does when a standard box will out last it and cost about 50 notes. Ouchy.

IIRC that's the weakest gear according to Miles.

After a quick Google, some people claim that shot-peening is most effective on newly cut gears, and may not be effective on worn gears that could have already started to develop cracks.

Cryo treatment may be better?

The only real way to check the gears is to Xray them like the F1 boys do, But I would hate to think how much that would cost.
But as said the Shot P is the cheapest method of a up-rated box not that's its cheap or look at a 5 speed box with deeper cut gears

So what your saying is there's not any point in buying one of your boxes as it might not last as long as a standard box? How much would you be if I was to send you the gears for you to check and replace 3rd gear?

Might be worth asking Ash how his is getting on, he had his cryo treated and last I heard it was fine. He races his too, so gives it a proper battering.

I seem to remember he also didn't bother with shot peening anymore due to bad experiences.

I second this, last I heard the cryo treated gears were fairing far better than any previous shot peened ones.

My gearbox is fine, was done by Miles just before I went High Boost, now run 2 years worth of Super High Boost.
He had the gears shotpeened and coated from memory as well as fitted my LSD at the same time. Yes

In that time, I've done 3 trips down to Monaco and back giving the car a good pasting through the French Alps and 6 trackdays too.

Been awesome. Yes

Stan, as miles said, its just luck of the draw wether they last or not, so the way im looking at it is i can have 10 standard boxes break for cost of this 1 so i will just be running a standard box that i never had any problems with before, so works out more cost effective for me, as it is only a track car dont see the point on paying mega bucks for something that can still brake an let you down.
