I would say the chassis rail if your car is not lowered.

on the jacking point, or the middle of the subframe, never the chassis rail, they aren't strong enough.

I was unsure about the chassis rail. I've never tried as my car is lowered so cant get to it with trolley jack.

I usually jack up under the subframe using a block of wood to spread the load and prevent scratching the paint. Then when the front end is up put the axle stands under the jacking points on the sills, using rubber pads to prevent scratching the jacking points.
Alternately if i just want a wheel off i jack up on the jacking point on the sill.

Jack the car up on the sill and place the stand under the subframe ? Mine seem to fit nicely between the bolts on the sub frame Yes

Yep chassis rails are as soft as butter.

My car along with a lot of others it seems has been jacked up in the past on the floor or the sturdy-looking transverse "beam" things (that are actually made of metal thin enough to cut with tin-snips!!) behind the front wheels.

Consequently there is rust there that I need to get fixed and the floor bent back into place.

Rear of subframe, rear axle tube or sill jacking points only!
