Has anyone got, used or know of a clutch cable with something other than the plastic end on the pedal end? I have a heavy clutch and yesterday it just snapped the end off when I put the clutch down.

It may be a one off, but I can't afford to risk it happening again.. so is thee anything like that made of metal? Or would that have to be home made..? I can't fit an earlier cable as is need to swap the pedal too.

This is for use in a 306 but with a push clutch, so using a 205/ZX cable.

To be honest, that's such a rare failure mate it's not likely to happen again.

If the plastic clip wasn't up to the job and kept breaking Peugeot would have changed the design. Yes

Just checking if there was anything really. I know they all seem to be plastic but had hoped i might have missed a modified one somewhere along the line!

Just cost me best part of 300 quids worth of fun, so don't want it to be a regular thing!

I've had one snap on me, just where the cable leaves the plastic.
Also had the auto tensioner unit fail on another one, luckily i had a spare cable with me, was stuck in motorway traffic in belgium and it had been raining, so changing that bad boy was fun. Doh

Yeah, the cable itself snapping has happened a fair few times but the actual plastic clip snapping isn't a common occurance. Wink

I have seen a cable with a metal end on it, but no idea where it came from, was a custom cable for a BE4 conversion in a 106/saxo.

when i did my clutch (my white nylon bush snapped, not the cable) i thought about knocking a little metal sleeve up and putting it inside the plastic clip but i guess it's still going to add stress to the plastic clip anyway. unless it was completely metal or solid i can't see how it'd prolong the life of it. i've took loads of old cables out and the white bushes have still looked ok. bad luck i guess

Yes, it is a rare failure. They usually snap the cable about 3 inches or so from the white clip.
That's why I think it's just bad luck and not to be overly concerned with replacing like for like. Wink

I guess it isnt a common issue then. Although with the cable having only been used for about 300 miles, its not exactly reassuring! haha.

Anyway, i think i am going to make an exact replica of the platic clip out of steel, and attach that to the cable in place of the broken plastic piece.

That would stop the clip breaking again, but it won't prevent the cable from snapping. No
