Drained and filled the gearbox today with fresh pug oil. Thought that would solve my issue.

Sometimes you have to push the gear lever quite hard to get it into first and other times it flows into first easily.

Any ideas. Something could be worn? Linkages?

Apart from that, the gearbox is great.

My 205 was a bugger to get first. Sometimes it would take a good push and them go past the point of selecting and have a bit of slop. Once I pushed it so hard it popped off the linkage and left me in second LOL.

I found it worse when going down in to first, took more force then.

I replaced my linkages for group N ones with retaining clips and it made the world of difference.

Might be worth popping them off and greasing up.

probably a worn synchro or tired spring clip, try lifting the clutch whilst in neutral then trying 1st.

I had this on my old 1.8. New linkages helped but it turned out to be a partially seized release arm. Unseized and felt like a new car!

Grease the linkages, and as said try double de-clutchng.

If that works, you've got internal gearbox wear. Wink

I remember an old episode of 5th gear where Tiff is driving a Lambo around the Anglesey circuit: he has to select 1st for one of the tight corners because of the tall gearing of the car's gearbox. So he's pushing the lever into the 1st position at (probably) around 40/50 mph. Shock
    And it's fine with it!

I'm lucky if mine 'slots' in, rolling at 5mph! Heaven forbid if it's January and I've just started the car... 1st only when stationary or use 2nd if rolling even slightly. LOL

I don't use my car in the winter, it sits locked up in the garage so I don't know what a '6' gearbox feels like stone cold on a winter's morning...but I'd imagine it would be a bit tight. Yes
