Hey eveyone.

Got to shoot out to a meal so going to keep this short as sweet...

Now driving my gti6 on LPG. VERY happy with the result so far, had a bit of a problem yesterday but it's been sorted, just a loose spark plug.

The conversion. I'll post up more info as soon as I can, possibly tomorrow. In the meantime here's some pics of the conversion as they speak a 1000 words.

BRC Premium conversion. £1199 cost all in including;
>>>>>>> full tank of LPG
>>>>>>> free extra bottle of flashlube
>>>>>> LATEST GENERATION, TOP QUALITY SEQUENTIAL INJECTION LPG SYSTEM
>>>>>> LARGEST SUITABLE APPROVED TANK (60L where spare wheel went)
>>>>>> ALL LABOUR, FUEL LINES & CONSUMABLES
>>>>>> 24 MONTHS UNLIMITED MILEAGE PARTS & LABOUR WARRANTY
>>>>>> CONVERSION REGISTRATION WITH UKLPG AND DVLA (discounted road tax by around 20% for cars registered on or after March 2001!)
>>>>>> FREE COURTESY CAR
>>>>>> FREE 1000 MILE CHECK UP SERVICE
>>>>>> FREE COLOUR CODED FILLER CAP if required which I didn't, see pics
>>>>>> FREE "FLASH LUBE" LUBRICATION SYSTEM
>>>>>> FREE EUROPEAN FILLING ADAPTER SET
>>>>>> FREE EMERGENCY TYRE REPAIR KIT

Before and after conversion:

On another note, not only am I saving on car tax (around 20%), my car insurance renewal has come in. Was quoted around £420 for the year, for me, 6 years driving, 4 years no claims. 23 years old, 5 points (will have 0 in December this year). Since the LPG was added my premium has now been reviewed again and I'm now paying £380 all in! So treated myself to UK and Euro Flux Breakdown cover for £54 too.

Only been driving a week. Can confirm 0-110 speed is the same on petrol as it is on LPG. Top speed hasn't and wont be tested (Might have been tested on private road).

Average petrol cost - £80 for 350 miles
Average LPG cost - £35 for 300 miles
I drive about 1000 miles a month. You can work out my savings! Then less car tax rebate, less car insurance premium, add £100 for extra annual service, add £40 a year for the flashlube to keep the valves lubricated and add £50 a year for maintenance I guess.

To add, it idle's better and has sorted my stalling problem too

Gotta go but hope you all agree, money well spent! Glad to be back tooThumbs up

Any questions feel free to ask!

Confused

edit: "lifetime" will actually be around 10 months to cover the cost of the conversion (mental arithmetic) assuming he only uses the LPG and not petrol.

To be fair to James, he never said he wouldn't pay up, just that he didn't see any benefit at the time.

Now that he's got something shiny to show us...

Anyhow, should break even in 12 months time based on those figures, and the assumption that only LPG is used.

So LPG doesn't affect performance then? Hmm I always assumed it was an "around town" kind of thing.

Well done for getting it installed, it seems you'll recoup the money fairly quickly if you plan to keep the car and cover that sort of mileage.

ian7675 wrote:

In thoery it does blunt performance slightly and you will attain slightly poorer MPG but the performance difference is negligible and the lower MPG is, of course, offset.

People on the Lolvo forum have been using LPG relentlessly for hundreds of thousands of miles: town driving or otherwise.

what does that flashlube system do? Local garages do loads of LPG converions for around the same money, and they only install the basic kit in a way a 5 years old kid would do.... Like drilling the jets into the inlet runners, and leaving the shiver inside the manifold...

See my guess in post #15. Oh I've not reported it either as I want an answer to my question.

I was going to ask earlier what sort of meal it was but didn't feel it was a serious question about his conversion.
