When people advertise 'reconditioned' cylinder heads for sale, what would you expect for your money? What work would you expect to have been carried out?

Hi Mate,

Well first I'd expect it to work with no issues; i.e. no tapping or burning oil etc.

The work carried out would be a skim (if it needed it), replacement of any bent valves, replacement of valve stem seals, a pressure test and any failed valve stems replaced if needed.

If the head is being supplied with the tappets; these may too be rebuilt - but I don't think they always are.

Hope that helps Smile

As above, it should consist of 16 valves all lapped in, new valve stem seals, tappets compressed ready to be pumped back up again and freshly skimmed inc a pressure test. Yes

Cheers for the info guys. 350/400 seems to be an average cost for a reconditioned head. Any idea how much it is to get a garage to swap one over?

Just be wary of where they come from, Just had one done which was recon not that long ago to find it needed 8 guides plus other work,
I'm worried that a car I bought has the same supplier recon head on which does tap slightly,
I'm not naming anyone
