iv'e had it since january and it's always done it, he said that because there shimmed hydraulic lifters that he's heard them a few times.

and if it had bent a valve/s then it would tap all the time not just 1st thing in a morning when cold/oil drained out of the tappets

Only taps for a few minutes after starting up changed the oil and flushed the engine an it got a lot better but didn't clear it up altogether had it a 2 local garages and a guy that builds 106/306 engines and he said its just a noisy lifter and nothing to worry about

Shows he does not know what hes on aboutNo

They are hydraulic lifters,no shims.

The old 8v Gti engine uses shims and buckets,these are known as solid lifters.
