Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew the best place inside the cabin to take an ignition live from?

I am wishing to have an ignition live which is live at position "1" of the key not "2". I know the blower motor works on position "1", is there anything else I can take it from before I go hunting for power in the fusebox?

Cheers,

Stan.

So...coming back to this, anyone have any ideas where the best place for an ignition live AND Earth point is around the dashboard area on the passenger side/central?

Cheers. Smile

Ignition barrel? cig lighter depending on where the fuse is positioned?

What is it you want to power? If we know, we can work out how much power it draws and find a suitable source.

What kind of load are you putting on this? I think the Radio is fused at 10amp so no more than 120watts including the radio can be drawn from that circuit...

Cheers Niall, I only want to power something small, won't take hardly any current.

I'll probably use something behind the cig lighter (possibly radio) as the cig lighter is powered all the time by my choice. Thumbs up

End of the day, my recommendation if your adding extra stuff is always to run it from the battery. Ideally, you shouldnt be adding extra stuff to existing wiring as its normally sized to the required load when the car was standard. However there could be spare ports on the fusebox to use or if its just something small like a few LEDs or something (sure your not that much of a chav though right? Big grin) then you could get away with it.

TBH im just anal with that sort of thing lol

True, but then if you run it direct from the battery then how can it be easily switched with the ignition? It would be permanently powered then...

you could power a relay from any switched live (eg the radio) then through the relay you could power whatever load you wanted through a seperate fuse.

stan is wiring a beacon up to his car so when he comes to start it up in 10yrs time, it'll alert the forum, and also trigger fireworks and an electrical storm

This. Your standard relay that you would use draws literally mili-amps so wont affect the previous wiring. Its only if your planning to install something off the previous wiring thats drawing, for example 10a that you need to start thinking about your options.

Is your car used as a Humidor? I reckon you sneak out for a cheeky brew and Cigar when the baby plays up.

In fact - comparing that pic to your avatar, is that actually you?
