Ive finally got my vts beam with 21mm bars through and fitting it tomorrow. I need to lower it to match the front which is 30-40mm, no probs doing this providing it wants to play ball and let go of the bars lol, done it many times before, but I've been told a vts rear beam is set 30mm lower than a 6 one as standard. Anyone know if this is true?

I'm About to put my solid mounts on it and the O/S front beam Mount won't come off or rather the lower bolt doesn't have the clearance to come out which would indicate its lower than a 6 beam? Though it clearly has never been lowered as its all rusted solid.

If you can't get the bolt it, it is already lowered imo

Why don't you spend the time stripping the beam properly? That way you know all parts are new/clean.

Sounds like you'll need the weekend to sort it. Not just a day

Shock distance on a 6 is 330mm and on a vts 320mm check the distance you have between top and bottom shock bolts

From memory mine was sat at 322mm, tis a ZX but all the parts are the same as the Phase1 xsara.

I don't think its quite as much as 30mm, as 330 to 322 on 20 mm bars is a 25mm ish drop.

That's what I was thinking as the lower bolt won't come out its lowered but not by a lot. And as I said it hasnt ever been stripped from What I can see so presuming its correct that they sit lower on a xsara?

What do you use to get the bars out? Big slide hammer some heat and patience? After a good soak I presume lol. Well I've got all weekend if I need to but I've got to get it bolted on before Monday as my boss comes back then and is somewhat funny about using ramps at work etc Wink.

if it is 8m shock difference the height would be 24mm difference

brute force and ignorance Big grin

if you want heat get proper stuff, a plumbers torch is somewhat useless when you're talking that much cast steel.

Well fitted this today and yeh it sits about 20mm lower now at the rear, I'm on 205/40/17's and the rear arch gap is very minimal now looks a lot better without being silly low and still goes over speed bumps ok. Could possibly do with being about 5 mm lower to match the front but I'll be changing the front springs for eibachs somewhen rather than the spax ones on there atm. So hopefully the front will raise slightly.

However I now have the new problem that he tyres scrape on the wheel arch liners both sides over bumps which it never did before even fully loaded up with half a tonne of scrap metal in the back once...
Not sure if it's just because it's lower or if the different camber on the VTS beam is causing this but will either adjust/trim/remove the liners this week.

I found on a previous 306 that they had bowed inwards on the inside edge and started rubbing the wheels. Depends where and why it's rubbing and nooooo I love my TSW volcanos Big grin I get so many complements from them they set the car off lovely Smile.

Roll the arches and fit 3-5mm spacer if you really want to keep wheels, it really shouldn't be rubbing with 17" wheels on a 205/40 tyre with a standard vts beam, do you know the offset of the wheel ? 17" really needs to be ET15 for minimal rub, i ran mine on 8x18" lowered 90mm with no rubbing and 4 in the car just by running the correct offset

I never have till I fitted this beam like I said, hopefully it's just warped or s**te filled liners it definitely sounds like plastic rubbing shouldn't need rolling. Never had to roll arches on a 306 with 17'S.
At least I've got no more creaky rear beam with s**te loadsa play in the trailing arms Smile, you could grab the o/s wheel and wiggle it up and down with ease before Shock.

Just checked the wheels and their et 15 so spot on. Got the rear in the air an cant see anything the drivers side has been rubbing on no evidence at all... But only like it for one day so proba hasn't marked anything. Found the near side has been rubbing where the bumper meets the arch in the outside edge. This is also where my ex decided it would be a good idea to reverse into the side of my car some years ago...
Have tapped the arch out slightly and cut away a tiny section if the liner that it was rubbing on. Will go for a run with some fat buggers in the back later and see if that's cured it Smile.
