Owain the same applies for seatbelts. If you have bucket seats with harnesses the seatbelts do not need to be there and if they are not then they cannot be tested. Providing the harnesses are fitted in the origional or stronger places.

And yes Lowercase you can take airbags, wires and ecu out.

Its not that i particularly have the space or the money... 3 years at a push of Tax MOT and Insurance outweighs the cost of a trailer

Heh no that's fair in certain circumstances; for me I like being able to take the car up and down the road when I've changed something, it'd be a complete waste of money removing ABS then towing it to a trackday without testing it first just to find it didn't work and I had to go straight home.

For me, I'm not decrepit enough to have towing ability on my licence, so I'd have to do training and test, buy a trailer, buy and store/drive a stupid 4x4 which is capable of towing it, and then lose my driveway storing it. Probably looking about £5k to have a reliable solution which will buy a lot of MOT's Wink

Honestly not sure about that one, I think the harnesses require CE marks for them to count as road legal, which not all track ones are. I don't know if FIA/MSA approval is a superset of CE or not. But essentially yes you're right, there is no rule that says you can't have harnesses - the R26R comes with them as standard. It's more that if you're like me and have bought any old out-of-date second-hand track harnesses, it's just easier to keep the belts in. Plus it means you don't have to bother with the faff of harnesses on the road.

I trailered and then borrowed the works single car transporter when i had my Primera GT trackcar, and what a faff. Takes ages to get loaded, parkings a b**ch, then i looked like a scrap dealer with the car loaded on the truck on my drive. Much easier to lob the kit in and get it MOT'd and useable.

My primera was gutted with 2 x fixed Cobra Suzukas and sabelt harnesses. I also re-fitted the front seatbelts for road use, as like Owain says, harnesses can be a twat to use on the road. Come MOT time, only the normal belts were tested, they never looked at the harnesses. No mention was ever made of all the other missing seats, trim, rear belts, airbags, airbag light etc etc. MOT man said if its not there, you cant test it/fail on it.

Went through 3 mot's just like a normal car.

Completely agree on the faff factor, mate of mine has a trailer and tow car and still often just drives to trackdays as it's so much less effort.

Plus the fuel costs of the tow car whislt towing can be dreadful. We towed to Spa the one year, fuel bill, including the track fuel was nearly £500. Drove the next year, got there on £70 worth of fuel!!, plus we could park anywhere in the street outside the hotel.

Yup, also true. I guess it all depends on the car - I can just about handle driving mine around to trackdays, but when I went all the way up to Oulton I stayed in Manchester rather than heading back same day, it's just too much in a loud, rattling, uncomfortable car.

I'd never drive to the 'Ring in it, I'd sort a trailer somehow or just not bother.

Nah, i drove the primera to Le-mans, got searched at the tunnel (this side) - it was quite amusing them rummaging through all the wheels/tyres/flasks/tools/bags of biscuits etc etc. We drove down there on the saturday, did the trackday on the sunday, then drove back on the monday, Bum was a bit sore, but the rubber cushion and the ipod helped make it more bearable on the autoroute. Saying that the Suzuka Seats are the most comfortable full race seats ive ever had, even at my extreme dimensions. Cheap seats can be a crippler i agree

Lmfao that had me in stitches, maybe I'll get onto my boss that could be a good slogan haha! Wonder what he'd say....

Anyway quite the opposite, had a surprise visit from a vosa inspector the other week who went over a car I had just failed with a fine tooth comb and gave me a pat on the back for thoroughness Smile. Don't think I've actually passed one yet today, very little gets through without at least a few advisories etc.
And I said any doubts come see me not ill look over your car with my eyes shut lol.

Heh no I'm sure you're fine, as I said there's actually no reason at all a track day car *should* fail, as long as it's genuinely roadworthy.

If it's not roadworthy, it *should* be failing Yes

Cant see how its a faff loading a car onto a trailer, thats what i used to do, drive on then to straps on job done, 10min job lol, also my fuel costs for track days is cheaper as the transit loaded is cheaper than the rallye to run on fuel, my car is insured and mot'd, just not taxed, but i have used it to trackdays with trade plate on, but i much prefer having the transit or l200 and trailer, as at knockhill no where to leave your spares, and also when your gearbox goes bang or you drop a valve or throw a rod or end up upside down, i can just get my car loaded up on trailer or transit, then drive home, none of this faffing about waiting on rac or AA to come and recover it home.

We mot a heap of rally cars and they used to be a bit dodgeey emissions wise but now, they have to have cats fitted so to be fair there just like normal cars without all the s**te inside it!

Depends on your personal circumstances. If it's in a yard or something then fine. If you live on a busy-ish road where you have to get out the trailer, turn it round, line it up with the car on a gravel drive (so it becomes a 2-man joCool, get the ramps out, get the car on making sure you're going on straight, then get it hooked up to a car, it can fast become a faff, especially if it involved reversing onto driveways from roads.

Don't get me wrong if I had the space, money and tow-car I'd absolutely tow it, but it's not always feasible.

ive picked up cars on the road side before, cherrys 106 on slip road lol, that was a faff as weather was snowing an wet an it was pitch black lol but normally its easy enough, thats what you hazards are for, stopping to load up lol, reason ive went to the transit is i dont have a licence for towing yet
