The 6 failed its mot on trailing arm etc, got a speedy replacement from Carl to see me through Smile

Took the old 1 apart today to see the damage and possibly renew shafts, bearings etc:

This one is loooong gone, so thats one new shaft


What do you think on this one? good for a long while yet, or another new shaft required?

Can't tell from the photo.

You need to clean it up and look at the surface that sits inside the bearings. If those areas are free from corrosion and pitting then it's fine, otherwise it's scrap.

if the shaft looks like that I'd bet that the crossmember is likely to be fooked too.

Yea, I fear that, but won't know for sure until its all cleaned up. And it annoyed me enough getting the thing apart!

If you are planning to rebuild it I would personally change both the pins. Yes

imho, i reckon just by looking at the o/s trailing shaft, your crosstube is fubar

Thats how the shafts looked in the Xsara VTS beam i stripped, the crosstube was scrap in that as well.
