Just recently got a second 6.

Sits on 78 degrees on the motorway and goes all the way to 98 degrees and the fans kick in and temp goes back to low 90s, then so on...

This range seems to be rather large. I was under the impression that the thermostat was 83-84 degree. Could it be leaking?

Cheers

Dom

You could have a leaky thermostat. Yes
It could also be the gauge or sender at fault. The sender for the gauge is the blue coloured one in the thermostat housing. Thumbs up

My guess would be a leaking thermostat seal...

Normal but it is 97°C and it's only one slow speed fan that comes on and returns temp back to 90°C. High speed, both fans, kick in at 107°C. If your arcon works... you can start that and that returns the temp back to normal rolling so don't get the temp going up and up before fan kick in.

That's what most people's temp is when rolling. Things like Nissens rads are perceived to lower temp slightly to the 78°C mark.

Both fans will run at half speed when the temp reaches 97C...Yes

Once the temp reaches 107C they will both run at full speed.

Yeah that's just me thinking about it wrong. Doh The amount of times I've checked I should've remembered and written it correctly. Roll eyes

Although I could've just edited it and made you look silly...Whistle

Mine sits at 75 most of the time and heats up to 98 sat still before the fans kick in, perfectly normal!

I think the gauges might be slightly off...

My '6' also runs around 78C according to the gauge, but bear in mind the stat is 83C so the gauge isn't 100% accurate. However, they do all appear to be the same, so yes it sounds normal to me.Smile

Yeah i'm guessing it can't hurt to replace the thermostat anyway.

What product do you use to clean your sensors?

Maybe something like WD40, although sensors don't usually need cleaning.

Lol my bad, I mean the plugs that go into the sensors if that makes sense. They look very dirty.

You will have to excuse my poor knowledge in some areas. Still learning Razz

Sorry to drag this back up but i have a related question.
Ive currently got both of my engine bay fans set to come on at 87 degrees and go off at 85. Is this too cool or should it be fine running at that as i know they do run fairly hot anyway as standard.

They typically run at that temperature but that's when you are cruising along and getting airflow to them so I'd have thought having the fans coming on a little higher would be better ie. the car is up to temperature at high 80s and then if you come to a stop and sit there/roll slowly it will creep up and then the fans would cut in.
