hi guys

please bare with me as im new to wiring, (plumber by trade)

After my original fans seizing i fitted another set off of a car from the scrappies, I had the usual problems with the fans so i ran them off the a/c switch by linking pins 1 &3 on the brown plug (from the a/c pressure switch).

but this didnt last long, Im assuming its the bitron unit thats at fault.

Anyways. ive stripped all the wiring and im starting from scratch.

i have a switch on my dash (just a simple on/off with two connectors) and im using the rubber gromit in the passenger foot well to feed the wires through to the engine bay.

i though this was going to be easy, i was just going to put a live to the switch with an inline fuse, then from switch to fans then fans to earth, but my mate mentioned using a relay,

I'd imagine i need a relay similar to this:

on the diagram, the switch at the top just below where it says DC 12V, is that my switch on the dash, or is that the switch in the relay??

Basically whats the best way to wire this, so far ive got the two negatives from the motors linked, and i was going to earth them.

then the two lives are linked, what pin do they connect to?
where do i put a fuse?

ive got so many questions, car is in bits at the moment and need to get it finished tomorrow after work.

any help will be much appreciated

so confusedSad

Should work fine matey if you just want to bring them on at full chat when you spot she's getting a bit warm. Wouldn't know what sort of current draw the fans would use on full speed. Find out what size fuse runs them
As standard probs 20-30A at a guess.

i have a birton unit you can have mate if you interested

i had alsorts of problems over the years, due to me turning up at Lynx with no fans then getting them to do charger conversion and going from Rallye single fan setup to duel slim line setup. Ended up with a revotec fan controller (extreme i know) i like being able to tweak what temp the fans kick in at.

before the fan controller i had them wired to switch on my dash, going threw a fused relay

relay like this
i ran my two slimline fans via a green 30amp fuse for 2 years. And the thicker wire i used was 10 gauge (i googled it to confirm that)

i still have the wiring, relay and switch on my Rallye from before Farmer just pulled the fuse
a lot of people will say its best getting your standard setup working, i ran it as a temporary measure and ended up having it running off switch for 2 yrs Shut up

It doesn't bother me having them on a switch as the fans haven't worked in about 4 months so I'm used to keeping
An eye on the temp.

Cheers for the info guys. And if I get stuck for something I will give you a shout russ.
