just after opinion on these (for sake of ease it's a V plate one in question, so i guess the 'earlier' one before the newer Porsche engine)

thinking of getting one for a runaround as they look alright and pretty cheap for good ones anyway now.

how do they compare vs gti6 power wise and generally?

is it worth getting a newer one with the newer engine or not much difference really?

are they alright trundling along on the motorway like the 6 is in 6th at 60-70mph?

any really common issues or problems to look for with them like i'd imagine on the gti6's worst ones being the timing belt intervals

any advice appreciated Thumbs up whatever you say i'll buy it anyway but just thought i'd get 24hours heads up really LOL

don't worry the gti6 will be staying

power wise they will never feel as quick as a 6, top end will be more im guessing but not by much considering a 6 is good for 140 "claimed", they will have great mid range tourge but will be a lazy engine all v6s are, these are 5 speed belive but rev lower than the 6 so cruising at 60 70 i would say you will be sat around 1500 - 1750 rpm

they are loaded wiht equipment interior is nice depending on colour there was some horrendous leather colours, good brake set up wiht the brembos and they have that iconicn styling look

my mate has just bought one on a s plate in blue, £400, sailed through the mot just needed a set of wipers blade, pulls really well and sounds great, cant beat a V set up, handles like a boat but its not designed to go round corners like a 6.

One of the best looking mass produced cars ever -quite a lot of kit, and despite being thrown together by french people a reasonable reputation for most of it working!
There is an owners forum which should be useful.

Porsche engine?! Huh?

they aren't "lazy" they just have an epic wide band of torque, not much difference between engines really, you may find the later better on fuel is all I can imagine with it being VVT, but it has two more cats strangling it (3 in total on the D9!)

later cars look to be finished better, or at least shinier!

Miles would be a good person to talk to, he has run at least two V6 estates for several years

I guess this is his?

source: here

What is the advantage of it? Surely one of those huge K&N would be enough? It is still going to suffer from heat soak.

when you first said it was twin induction, i thought you meant something like this

I was intrigued to know how he had done it from one throttle body!

Twin induction? It's only one throttle body as standard...?

I really liked my v6 lump. Good torque band and revved out well. Check for oil leaks on cam covers, belts are expensive but last 75k at least.

O i fully agree, its hard to imagine how much air even small turbo engines consume. My DT running much higher boost than standard was pulling oil from its seals as the pipercross induction thing i was running at the time was too much of a restriction.

Not much to look for, Belts are good for 90 and only on the second change you need the tensioners and pump, expensive but engine's are cheap and easy to swap if it ever broke
Suspension bush's, Same type of P bush at the front and the rear Drop link's tend to wear, these control the camber at the back end so when replaced the car must be lined up.
Oil leaks from the cam covers and sump, typical PSA fault here.

Performance, Quicker than a 6 over the 1/4 mile and top speed is around 155ish which is funny in Germany with all the ring piece (Sorry Audi) and BMW drivers wondering what's going on

My first one before I sold it I think had almost 300k on it without any problems at all, My second has just gone over 100k and all OK.

Owned es4 9js powered 406 v6 coupe, sold it last year. Loved that car, but day to day running cost hurt a bit.

The later vtt engine is smooth and seems a slow to pick until 2500 rpm and then it bursts into life.

Would recommend a subtle suspension drop of 20mm or so, makes the car handle a lot better imo.

i presently drive one, is as able as you want it to be

fuel consumption around town isnt the best but on a run i average mid to high 30s

defiantly go for the SE spec so it comes with all the extra bits, very comfortable and able cruiser.

and they do respond to modifying fairly well

a panle filter, removal of the pre cat(on later modles) and a stainless exhaust will release a few ponies.

agree though as standerd they could do with loweing 20-30mm which i will be doing on mine shortly
