As above please if you have one.

or if you know... Is there more than one type of steering rack on the vts ?

Ive been sent one with push fittings, a bit like the aircon pipes, and this wont be a direct swop for my 306 one.

Could i swop the housing over from my old rack with the normal screw in ones ?

Cheers
Dan

@Dangti6 - Not having much luck at all LOL

Cheers for the pic tvr fan, mines the same as yours with the push fittings, except i dont have any of them to use Sad

Do you think i could swop the the housing over, or is it now worth the risk ? i might disturb the seals.

can you not just use all the xsara pipework?

you can't swap the "housing" as that's part of the reason it has less turns lock to lock, unless you strip it right down and swap the pinion, IF it fits...

I was hoping the xsara rack was going to have the normal fittings, like on the 306, then it would have been a simple case of screwing my pipes in.

I could use the xsara pipework i supose, but now ive got to source and pay extra for them Sad and i will have to modify the high pressure one to suit my relocated pump.

Any one got any push fitment pipes going spare ? Smile

Reminder for when I kill my VTS: Include all the fittings, charge a premium and advertise as confirmed genuine with certificate of authenticity.

    Cheers Owain. Thumbs up

If you look at tvrfans pic, you can see the low and high pressure pipes going into the rack, he has push fittings with a single bolt in the middle and a bracket to clap them in.

Thats how it is on mine, except i dont have any of them pipes.

Sounds all kinds of wrong to me. Sure it's the P1 quickrack? Not just a later VTS rack?

there are 2 different types iirc
early ones are like the 6 rack. late ones go to the push fit with one allen key bolt
i might have the push fit pipes somewhere if you're interested?

So the the later one has push fittings and thus being from a ph2 would have the 2.6 lock as apposed to the 2.4 ?

ph2 one would be 2.6 yeah. Providing it's original. You can try it off the car to see the turns.

Ive just rang the company i got the rack from and told him it was from a ph2, his responce being "you never asked for a ph1 rack" ok mate, have a look on the parts request, "oh yea, sorry, send it back and you can have a refund" LOL

He then goes on to tell me that the gti6 rack is the same as the xsara vts one and is the same lock?

Hmm, I'm worried about the rack I've got stashed in the garage now, as I don't think there are any pipes with it.

I was just going to make some up as I wasn't aware of them being push-fit, might not be able to now Sad

My phase 1 vts rack has exactly the same ram pipework fittings as my phase 3 gti6. Just a case of swapping the ram over and mine will go back on. Externally they look identical

Well the wrong one is been collected 2moz and will get a refund in that.

I've found another one, and the guys assure me it's off a ph1 and has the normal screw in fitments, I will buy it 2moz and see if it is the right one when it turns up.

Sorry I should've said mine was a P2 rack. Didn't feel like paying more than double for 0.1 lock per direction.

I've got what I'm told is a P2 rack, and so the there are 3 holes at the base of the bit that connects to the steering column, the outer two are the (non-threaded) ones where the pipes go into the rack, and the centre one is the threaded part that holds the plate holding the two pipes in if that makes sense. Am I correct that the GTI-6 rack has the two outer holes threaded, not smooth-bore. I have one piece of pipe with my rack that has a non-threaded end with an O-ring on it. I'm guessing I need another one of these and the thing that screws into the threaded hole between the non-threaded pipe holes.

I talked to someone who said it is possible to get the holes threaded for the normal GTI-6 pipes by an engineering company. Anyone done this and can anyone advise on the thread needed?

Or would it be simpler to order the Xsara pipes from Citroen (assuming they fit at the other end!)?

Anyone got any experience in doing this and can advise?

Excuse any numpty questions but I need to get the car back together in the next 6 weeks as we are moving house yet again.
