I'm trying to diagnose a major issue with my brothers car.

It occasionally wont start but when it does it will idle fine.

The symptoms start when you drive away. Under full throttle the car seems fine until you let off. Driving normally and after backing off the car will cut out randomly, revs will slowly die similar to lambda issues. While this is happening both the rev counter and speedometer bounce around like crazy. The car sounds very rough and smells rich. It will also cut out and stall when pulling up to junctions.

So far I've tried changing the ECU, the relay behind the ECU, the cam and crank sensors and the lambda. I've also checked the voltage on pin 35 of the ECU which has battery voltage even while it's cutting out so it seems power to the ECU is fine.

Any suggestions as to where I should be looking next?

ICV might be a shout for the stalling, going to change it later today, however I can't see it causing all the other major issues.

Tried the ICV from Roo's 6 and it made no difference, have put a direct earth from the battery to the body to bypass any faulty earths. Haven't got another MAP sensor to try but I think that might be the next thing to test.

Read the Ecu with a fault code reader and received this fault

Unable to find any clue of what this code means

    Thanks for the ideas

The reader can read and clear codes from the MM1AP ecu fine. I've used it to pick up lambda/map sensor faults before. Unfortunately the error that its showing here isn't a generic code and I can't find any trace of it on the net...

It's the older type, mine is on the newer type unfortunately so it's one of the few things we can't just swap. It seems likely that it's more than just a sensor though, none of the sensors would cause the dials to go haywire surely??

Unplug power steering sensor bud it's down the front of the engine ? Sounds silly but causes all sorts of running issues when faulty ?
