Looks smart, inlet and exhaust should give a nice little gain..

Been down this route with my old XS too. Had the full GTi6 exhaust system and inlet. Wouldn't really bother with the inlet unless you just want it to look nicer under the bonnet.

Rolling road showed no increase in power, if anything it was down on power due to not being mapped for the mods or anything. Think I got up to a dizzy 109bhp LOL. Wasn't a smooth line at all though so the car definitely didn't like the mods.

Exhaust manifold gives a little more low down torque as the standard one is very restrictive as John says. Don't be a twat like me, make sure you modify your rear hoses as they foul the bigger GTi6 manifold.

Drop a GTi6/S16 head on one of these and it'll be absolutely awesome IMO...

Just need some decent mapping to go along with, short stroke, light block - perfect!

The xu7 head is actually renowned for being really nice to work with. I would go down that route if I was you, get some better air flow and you should see good gains.

I picked up a gti6 inlet manifold yesterday and was considering fitting it to the XS but using the XS throttle body and injectors to save messing up the air fuel ratio.

Any thoughts before I get the tool box out?

I have done this to my XS and I'm having various troubles with mine at the moment. But i didn't realise I could use my old throttle body. I may have to try this

You need to use the standard injectors in the GTi6 fuel rail. Using GTi6 injectors will make your car smoke like hell

This is what I've done and now it's running too rich. What can happen if it runs too rich?

I plan to use the XS injectors and throttle body so in theory the a/f ratio will be the same. I'm not hoping for power gains but a more throaty sound would be nice.

Running rich would foul up the spark plugs and just run like crap. Probably not a good idea to run it for too long like it because it could end up contaminating the oil.

You will wash down the bores, as above. Bad idea!

Forgot to mention my engine was fooked a few months after LOL. No idea if this mod caused it though. I used the 6 throttle body

Does anyone know if the fuel pressure regulator in the gti6 fuel rail the same as the XU7 one?

Nice one Mei. You are a wealth of knowledge; much appreciated.
Do you think the intake runners are longer or shorter on the RS mani?

not purely a wealth of knowledge, I have an extensive selection of bookmarks that give all the answers, most commonly used is Servicebox Razz

RS are longer I would think certainly look it, also larger diameter.

I'm worried now that torque will suffer with larger bore runners. Although being longer would promote torque lower down I would of thought.

Lovely XS this!

Exactly what I am looking at getting now, If I am seriously going to get another 306 anytime soon. Insurance is just too silly to even consider a '6 Thumbs down I was a proper camera whore with my '6 although I never really bothered posting pics on here. I want to get another 306 and do a 'Project thread' although It wouldn't be that great in comparison to most on here Blush I would probably get 'burnt' LOL

I'm having second thoughts about fitting the RS inlet.
Even though I plan to use the XU7 throttle body and injectors I'm worried that there will be lean spots somewhere in the rev range if I run it without having a remap.

Am I being a bit too cautious?

What do you folks reckon?

I'm in a position to fit the RS manifold now but before I do I was wondering what you guys think about the ecu being able to compensate for any difference in mixture.
Looking at the two side by side I would say the '6' mani has shorter runners which would suggest the pulse tuning would be tuned for cramming more air into the combustion chamber higher up in the rpm range. If this is the case would the ecu be able to detect and correct this by adding more fuel or does it run a preset fuel map with no compensation?
The last thing I want to do is melt something.

Thanks in advance.
