no it not coming from the driveshaft seal, the driveshaft seal on the passenger side is dry. i tryed to get a pics but it did coming out correctly. i will try and explain.

say if you were taking the backing plate off, then you removed the gears. then you undo start to remove the next part of the box,it has about 13 bolts holding it on.it is leaking from there from what i can see.

I think he means the main part of the gearbox Matt.

Where you have the end section, then the main body and this main body is then in turn bolted to the bellhousing.

If it is that, I am unsure if there is a gasket fitted to that mating face or not? I would guess Pug used sealant on it and now it's leaking. Sad

I'm confused Crazy

So here's 2 random options.

1. The oil level plug may be loose.

2. It could be the crank main oil seal. These are known to leak.

I'd suggest given the oil a sniff if it's engine oil then it's probably the oil seal.

As above, Ive had this a while now and am keeping an eye on it, the amount coming out is negliable atm but im planning to buy a flywheel soonish and have it fitted while the seals replaced Razz I like to turn bads into goods where ever i can.
It gets me into financial trouble as you can imagine.

The flywheel end crank seal is actually pretty reliable, and very rarely fails. Yes

It is usually the two sealing strips which fit down down the sides of number 1 main bearing cap which often fail, and the leak then gets mis-diagnosed as the crank seal...

Gearbox off job either way though.

If its leaking out the bottom of the box, ie an ooze from where the bellhousing meets the block, id say rear main oil seal. Last 2 bottom ends ive worked on had both got leaking rear main oil seals. Not bad, but enough to drip every few days.
