Just starting to pull my new donor engine apart to give it a clean. Being the first time ive ever done anything this big. Just a question please. What runs off the aux belt? Is it the starter motor, alternator, pas pump and ac pump. Just trying to figure what ive just taken off lol

thanks in advance andrew

It's not rocket science as long as you take your time. There are a helpful lot on here too if you have any trouble.

Have you looked at the FAQ? That was a great help when I was breaking a '6

Yeh had a good read. Just making sure i label everything. Want to take both inlet manifold and covers off to spray them as their a bit scruffy. Trouble is it seems the covers are a nightmare to seal back up. Might leave it

OK

So after trying to convince my brain that this is possible and my lack of experience doesnt matter I have come to a stopping point. The cambelt change. At this moment in time my engine is sitting on my garage floor with no gearbox on, or pretty much anything else to that matter so access is GOOOOOOD Smile

I apologise because I ask this question after reading nearly all the Cambelt related posts already. I have pinned the cams with 6mm drill bits and the crank with 8mm drill bits. I obviously dont have to pin the flywheel because there isnt one on it. So do i now just try and untighten the crank bolt? Doesnt seem enough force to stop the rest turning than using an 8mm bit so the engine wont turn.

Or am I being stupid?

Thanks in advance and awaiting all of the "retard" coments Smile Andrew

You need a flywheel locking tool:

http://www.motorsport-tools.com/sealey-flywheel-holding-tool-citroen-fiat-peugeot-ldv-fso-vs1283-p-249686.html

In the car you can put in into gear and step on the brakes, but you need someone else to untighten it Wink

But i've got no flywheel as I explained. It's on the floor of my garage with no gearbox at all. Just the engine block on its own

You CANNOT untighten it with just the pins installed, you will f**k everything up...

The crankbolt is secured with 120 Nm (out the top of my head).

If the sump is fitted, you can fit the flywheel aswell.

Fitting a flywheel is the obvious the choice as it's something you need to do at some point anyway but if you have no other alternative you could try it with just the bottom pulley pinned. I'd use something like a solid 8mm bar rather than drill bit though as at least it will bend and not just snap.

It's not ideal but you cant really do any damage as if it does snap the engine will just turn over, dont pin the cams as my money would be on the cam pulley breaking first.

The above method will work with an impact wrench as I've done it before but I'm not sure it'll be that effective if you are trying to do it with a breaker bar.

you'll just mash up the alloy casting with an 8mm rod and trying to loosen the bolt.

rattle gun is the only alternative but it'll need t be a powerful one to break the threadlock loose.

Yeah when I said impact wrench I meant a proper one on an air line. I've never had a problem using one of these and as said the above method has worked fine for me and caused no damage when stripping bottom ends where the flywheel has already been removed.

It's definitly a method I would only use when faced with no other alternative

Thanks for the help. Everything is apart now just fitting the cambelt now. Ive either become super strong at the gym or the alternative is nobody put thread lock on the crank pulley nut. Got it off with the torque wrench. Everything in good working order as well Smile

One thing after another.

Was just putting the thermostat back on after fitting the gasket and spotted my replacement engine ony has one sensor going in here, where my old one has 3. Obviously just had a rummage through and found that the other two are the cooling fan switch (for my dual fans) and the coolant temp sensor.

My question is this will it just be easier for me to take the loom off my old engine and transpose it over to my new. Or will the loom on the new engine (which came from a xsara vts) have the ability to take thse sensors on it's loom?

Many thanks

sounds like a multiplex phase2 xsara loom, it wont work in a 306, neither will the multiplex sensor.

BOOOOOOOOO didn't need to here that

So the looms coming out as well, this job just gets longer lol

So if this is the case, just pop the loom out and connect it to al the relevant pieces in the new engine?

(Please say yes) Smile

I would use the original loom and sensors from the old engine over on to the new

As Simon says use your loom and sensors. That way you know everything will work once you get it back into the car. Yes

Cheers Stan

Going to try and dismantle my engine today and hopefully by the end of the day have everything swapped over to the new one. Leaving me all day tomorrow to fit the new one!

The 6 was winning in the morning. The bloody slam panel and bumper wouldnt come off. I calned down a little Smile and had a stella and a bacon sarnie.

So with andrew calmer i stripped the front, all ancillaries, drained all fluids and as magic got the engine out before sunset! Quite proud of myself so treated myself to.more stella and a curry haha.

One f**cking annoying outcome today was my peugeot dealer. Had ordered new exhaust manifold bolts, aux belt and water pump. Went to collect it all and all they had was the bloody pump! Going to a local motor factors for the belt tomorrow.

Do you onow anywhere i can get the bolts from on a sunday, really dont want the old ones back on

cheers
