right ive just took the head of my gti6 engine to do the head gasket, and it looks like its been done before
its had a cheap gasket on by the look of it and the heads had a skim,
i want to know how many times can a 6 head take a skim, wot sort of thickness should i see when measured

There is a tab in the casting at either end of the cylinder head casting - these are the limit markers of where the head can be skimmed to.

As long as the head hasn't been skimmed down to these, it will be fine.

The standard gaskets aren't available in any other thicknesses. I can supply an uprated one, these are 0.1mm thicker than the OEM gasket.

I can vouch for these gaskets, they are excellent build quality, and my 450bhp lump is still happy using it. Smile

you can get a thicker standard gasket from Peugeot at 1.4mm, unsure if its MLS but it should be at £60!! (standard 1.2mm MLS gasket is £40)

there's other gaskets available at 1.35 + 1.45 but they will be fibre not MLS.

Peugeot state that 0.2mm is the maximum skim, cylinder head height should be 137mm ± 0.05

You can skim it untill the notches on the side are just about there i would not recommend this unless you get a thicker head gasket.Cometec do MLS thicker head gaskets .Ive had to do this to my head and have had no issues so far before i did this everyone and his dog said the head will be scrap etc but my car is still running.
