My rallye has been stood for about 6 weeks and not run at all in that time. Today however, I had to have the car moved off the drive so I could have some stuff moved for me. When it started it kicked out a load of blue smoke. The smoke died down a bit in idle but when it was reved it kicked out even more!

Now is this because it's been sat for so long with out running, or are the rings gone and it's engine rebuild time?

Its burning oil, could be the rings. Top the oil up to max and see how much the oil burns and how many miles. If after 500 miles or less it burns about 1/4 or more then yes there fooked. Even newer cars burn oil.

could be stem seals or piston rings, leakdown test should confirm.

Leakdown test, is that the same as a compression test, but you put a bit of oil down into the chambers?

Sounds like a typical Pug engine to me... LOL

not really, my 205 and zx and 405 hardly use a drop between services.

TBF I think alot depends on driving style. All engines use oil, some more, some less. A mate had an S8 from new and was told to check and top up the oil every 400-500 miles!

As Meirion says, its either rings or stem seals...Yes

Engines shouldn't really burn oil, both my '6' and my bike don't burn a drop between changes so an engine burning it isn't really acceptable in my opinion as the standard way of life. No

You sure its oil and its not massively overfuelling due to an electrical issue? Just a thought.

Start it for a short time then take out the plugs and see what they look like.

I realise that should be grey smoke, but tbh i've had it with a 205 before when the wiring to the air flow meter went tits up. Looked like oil smoke, but the plugs said fuel.

By the way if it is overfuelling, don't run it for any length and change the oil immediately. You are likely to have the fuel wash the bores and get into the sump. It makes oil completely useless as a lubricant.
